What's your take on BMY(Bristol- Myers Squibb)?? i'm liking it for the dividend and value here in the $50 range...about 35% off its high of $77 earlier in the year... reason for the drop was due to a phase 2 drug failure with FDA... a few months ago... but i believe that 's a short term event which shouldnt impact their earnings as much as many think... and the company still makes $$... so i believe the company has the resources to climb back into the $60's if not higher... love to hear what you think..TIA

Yeah but look at longer than a 1 yr chart...the stock is still 100% higher than where it was 5 yrs ago.
I dont get excited about a 3% divi personally, you can lose 2 yrs worth of divi if the market drops a little bit and their earnings are flatlined for the last 3 years...little to no growth at all, in fact their operating earnings are decreasing because they are investing in R&D (increase of almost 70% in two year period).
One kind of scary thing is they are playing the dividend game to keep big holders from selling even though they are not cash flowing enough to cover the dividend. Their operating income is less than their dividend paid, that means their dividend is being paid from cash and debt, they are taking assets from the business and are paying dividends because they have no growth to lure investors.
I dont know...its selling at over a 20 PE and flat sales for 3 years, no growth and cash flow isnt there...
I think they will probably have to buy their way into some growth since they are not able internally...that can be scary.
I would look at the industry and try to find one that has the best margins, increasing sales and are not rushing to overpay a dividend or do the stupid buyback game. If you want that dividend find one who has a better than 3% yield and isnt taking from their savings account to pay it.
