CDs are for suckers? Maybe; maybe not. Holding cash as it depreciates can be for suckers. You don't have to lock it all up. As folks get older they want a guaranteed rate and small growth.
What does it matter if the money is locked up if you never do anything but put it under your mattress?
Inflation is there year in and year out. The point is your dollar today is not usually going to be worth a dollar 10 years from now. That is the point of trying to find good investments. Inflation is not a scare tactic---simply fact.
Certainly commodities and currencies are not for the everyday investor. My point to you is if you don't want to buy stocks --- there are many, many other things to do with your money if you are an investor or wanting your money to work for you.
The guy didn't ask me. He asked you. I assume because of your name. It just sounds like you might know something about investing. Then he probably reads everywhere you telling folks why you never see anything at all as a good investment.
For example, stocks are way, way up.
I have been telling folks for years to get in the steady long term growth funds. Can you imagine what your mattress money would be now?
I really have no idea at all why someone that is interested in the markets and investing would never see anything good at all. That's what I would tell the guy. It is easy and simple and works great over the long term.
But he asked you---not me.
And you say you aren't doing anything with your money but holding onto it.
Do you realize how that sounds? I can understand for sure from time to time. But all the time? I have never seen you like any investment the folks in here talk about.
And there isn't anything wrong with that. I know a lot of people that are intimidated or don't understand the markets. I have read your replies on lots of stuff here and that's not your reason for sure. So, with your moniker you have to see why it seems weird to never like any investment.
I guess one of the main reasons I say all of this---j just wish there was more interaction on the investment forum is all. It would be nice to see it get more talk. Lot of other investment forums are nice. But it would be nice to have an active one here as well.
This is almost like the compound interest discussion we had some time back?
