I've read a few threads and trying to really get a grasp. An aquaintence of mine has been killing it in the last 3 years. I'm not looking to be rich like him but he told me a small stock that I should pick up if i have a few bucks kicking around. (im ok if i lose it all) was looking to buy $500 worth of it. It's at .41 right now and he expects it to hit well over a dollar or even 2. Well where can I get this going what sites?? and im canadian and all ive read is written by americans. Any canadian site you guys recomend??
thanks
mike.

Scotia Bank bought Etrade Canada. It operates under Scotia Itrade now.
But Questrade is probably the best for you. It's cheap with $4.95 commissions but has none of the bells and whistles the big banks will have.
It is a discount brokerage but will require a min deposit of $1000. I believe all the others are min deposit of $5000 and $10-20 commissions.
My advice is to open up a TFSA with Questrade if you dont already have a TFSA so any capital gains remain untaxed. But at the same time, you wont be able to count your capital losses (if it happens) to lower your taxes.
Also, this company you want to invest in is probably sketch. A lot of pumpers take advantage of people who don't have a basic knowledge of the market to sell their shares at a higher price. Might not be the case, but it also might be.

questrade looks nice but you need to start with a $1,000.
Not for sure, but I think most brokerages will require a minimum deposit like this. It's been about 10 years since I've opened my TDAmeritrade, and I remember they had $1000 or so minimum deposit.
