unreal these markets. Well today they say the economy is back to slowing, lolllllllllll. Tomorrow they will say the economy looks like its turning around. Make up their damn minds.

Yeah but what is strange, to me even if things are improving and we WERE turning around, I think the market is fairly and fully priced right here, even if the economy were getting better (which it is in SOME sectors).

Another day another zinger.

So the FED will buy some government debt, that deserves a 100 pt reversal in the markets..and they WILL take this sucker green.

Manipulation is a daily event lately.

Anyone believing in this market needs to put the drugs away.

What the f can Bernanke and Co do besides manically print money and keep rates at zero? Nada----and it ain't working.

We'd all be so much better off to let this thing crash and burn to the ground.

market has always gone up over history and will continue to do that forever. Because it hasn't flown the last three years is hardly a barometer for future time.

The last 10 years has the market pretty much flat..trading range bound since nearly pre 2000 now.

"forever" is a long time.

In the 20th century United States was the financial and industrial beneficiary of not one, but two world wars that left its industrial competitors completely decimated. Germany France and Britain in particular lost entire generations of men.

Post World War II American prosperity was a once in a lifetime occurrence, that Americans misperceived as their birthright and their natural entitlement.Such arrogance is typical of empires at their apogee. Once the dollar loses it reserve currency status, the US will become Greece with atomic weapons.

Whats up with the CHF?

For where the USM is and the flight to safety, the USD is performing very poorly against most currencies, I have no idea why the CHF is so strong lately..

You guys are more in tune with currency trading than I am, but it seem once/if we lose our status as a reserve currency with ROW (particularly the Chinese).. then the shit really hits the fan.

IF that happened yeah it would hit the USD pretty good, not as bad as I think some think but it would effect it for sure.

Anyone else noticing that the VXX isnt really spiking on the last two days drop in the markets?

The drop seems very orderly, no waves of selling..which could mean we arent close to a bottom of the drop or that this is just a flash and does not last.

I have been looking at the VXX closely...and imagining what an Israeli strike on Iran would do to it.

As you say, it has been pretty calm of late. We will see. I like a little of it as insurance, specifically regarding the Iranian situation.

Well they are trying to bring her back in the last hour, where have we seen this before?

VXX now sharply in the red and for it being a low week, the VXX isnt showing anything..

I dont get how they can buy back the market into the face of this economic news, but I keep saying that so who knows?

They cant fix employment, they cant fix housing (see that blurb about half the peeps falling out of the remod program?) but they can prop up the market...and they will keep doing so at least through the elections....

I would be interested to see how much action we are seeing in the futures and options market relative to its average versus trading volumes average.

They wont bail it out today, I guess we will see next week if they try to take it to 10k or not..

Ver i said something about the remod program a few months ago...i read something that talked about over 30% of those enrolled had dropped out after making payments trying to get everything in order and were still losing their homes....article said it was more PR fluff than anything...

Buck I recall and also have read other reports with similar conclusions.

We have entered an Orwellian twilight, where the government completely confabulates unemployment figures (underestimating them by half), the media reports people defaulting on debts as "increasing savings rate" .. and banks hold bad debts and are allowed to pretend they are assets...etc etc.Accounting fraud is not fraud if.... close your eyes and pretend.

I agree. They take her down.Then start the buying around 3 pm. I do not like the housing report though. More foreclosures loom.

Which would be bad for banks... which would require another Fed Bailout.   Which is why Ben is so persistent to try and spend taxpayer dollars to avert another depression... All the while this is encouraging hyperinflation down the road.

I don't like our country's chances of threading a needle while driving on a country road.    good luck Mr. Federal Reserve.

Emerging Markets have a better chance of much better market returns than the U.S.   We are dead money....

Which emerging markets have a better chance at returns or economic futures?

Most every economy has its issues..China included. I dont see many oasises out there, maybe the Swiss..even the Aussies have issues, they are a very narrow economy, as is Canada..I dont see any one economy that is squeaky clean at all.

Swiss and Aussies are too small to move the needle. I wouldn't even call AUS an emerging market, but certainly a commodity-based economy which is why they do so well with the minerals, iron ore.

Many people think India & China are played out.. but I think they still have the best opportunity for growth over the next 10-20 years.

They are the dominant players in the emerging market. My thesis here is they are both still quite poor countries, and the most populous countries in the world.   Many of their citizens have yet to join the party.... earn a wage..... spend their money... contributing to a growing economy.

I draw the same parallels to this country a century ago... when many folks went from working the farms, to a more urbanized life, working the factories and creating city centers. The same thing is happening in China today.

No economy is squeaky clean of course but Brazil and and China are going to remain economic engines that will grow.

The sheer demographic demand from China is staggering. And given their absolute commitment to growth (unlike the US which would love, for example, electric power but is too cute for coal, too scared of atomic and well, heck, oil sucks too so maybe no drilling either), China does not give a damn about how it fuels its growth.

Full speed ahead, and they will worry about global warming on the 12th of never.

Singapore will remain attractive.

While hardly emerging, Australia and Canada offer real assets and the means to deliver them. Canada will not be as hobbled by the US as people imagine.I love a country with oil, minerals and a free ride on American military power.
