With the majority of leagues focusing on offensive players, I thought I'd create a thread so people could discuss defensive players. I think this season, especially with all the player movements, it will be interesting to see where defensive players get drafted.
So many questions (of course different league award different IDP stats)... -
- Can you regard Willis as the no.1 player drafted or will Bowman eat into his tackles, or you'd take a player like D'Quell first?
- What about your old horses - Lewis/Urlacher/Fletcher - could they continue to keep up the pace or maybe it's time to invest in young stars like Laurinaitus?
- What about teams stacked with MLB talent - Lofton/Hawthorne/and eventually Vilma...
- What about stars that got injured (Berry & Beason) - do you trust them?
- Charles Tillman or Charles Woodson :P
- Who will be this year's Bowman etc etc etc
- Which are your top 10 DEs/DBs/LBs....
*Would be nice for people that know IDPs to PM me as it'll be nice to bounce players, opinions etc...

I thought I'd get the ball rolling as I'm bored shitless at work. For leagues offering IDPs ( 1 pt per tackle / 0.5 for assisted / the rest Yahoo default).
These are my top 10 IDP players.
1. Patrick Willis - A safe bet for 100 tackle season with 150+ upside but hoping Bowman and the talented SF defence doesn't eat too much into his work. But always enjoy linebackers who does everything...
2. D'Qwell Jackson - Always nice to own players with 10+ tackles per game potential. Consistent throughout his career despite an injury plagued season in 09. Browns defence should be on the field often. Would be unanimous no.1 if he did other things than just tackle.
3. James Laurinaitis - I think he could only improve. Plus Rams D will be on the field a lot.
4. London Fletcher - Usually anchors my D in all previous seasons but I get the feeling he will be drafted a lot higher this season. Question is when does he slow down?
5. Ray Lewis - The icon of defence. He may be a year older but he'll take some of Suggs stats which is nice. I would like to rank him higher...
6. Jason Pierre-Paul - Not a fan of DEs but this guy is a beast. Hoping for a few more FFs this season!
7. This one is hard but Derrick Johnson - Had a shocking 2009 season but last 2 season he has proven his worth.
8. Jared Allen - If only he tackled more...
9. Charles Woodson - First DB off the board. Provides you with a bit of everything which adds up in the end...
10. Curtis Lofton - If only Hawthorne and Vilma weren't there so there is the unpredictable factor.
11-20 will follow shortly.
Meanwhile, discuss :)

Continuing on the trend with LBs being the backbone of your D.
11. Stephen Tulloch - I think last season was merely settling into a new team. Hoping for more and I'm sure he'll provide!
12. Desmond Bishop - A lot of people would have him ranked in their top 5 this season but I'm not really sold on him yet. Someone tell me I'm wrong.
13. Navorro Bowman - Only putting him here because he seems to compliment Willis well. There is upside...but I won't risk his upside for some other player already proven.
14. Paul Posluszny - Like Tulloch - new team so had a downer but hoping for better days.
15. Brian Cushing - I'd like to rank him a lot higher, especially for a player that loves getting to the QB. I really want him to be my second IDP player. Again, someone tell me he should be a top 10 pick...
16. Chad Greenway - Expect another 100+ tackle season but can't as for much more than just tackles.
17. Conor McCarthy - He does have top 10 upside but I would not draft him without a full season under his belt. He was heading for 130+ tackles last season had he started, so to get him around here would be nice.
18. James Harrison - I don't know why I rank him this low but is is one of the very few players that could give 100 tackles / 10 sack potential...It's a risk v reward pick if drafting him earlier.
19. Demarcus Ware - As per above but only difference is that lack of tackles he makes up with big sacking potential (would have been elite 3 seasons ago but I can't see him replicating another 80 tackle season).
20. Jerod Mayo - Easily top 5 pick if Pats use him properly, put him in his usual MLB spot instead of OLB...but I suppose he could be worth the investment here.
