Mississippi State's Aric Holman had his second consecutive double-double, and the Bulldogs blew out Tennessee Martin 92-61 Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss.
Holman had 21 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth career double-double, and Quinndary Weatherspoon also scored 21 points for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs (9-1) used 17-2 and 18-0 runs in the second half to turn a close game into a rout while rebounding from their only loss of the season at Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Nick Weatherspoon scored 11 points and made three 3-pointers, and Lamar Peters had nine points on three 3-pointers as the Bulldogs shot 50.7 percent from the field and had a 53-29 rebounding edge.
Matthew Butler had 22 points and DelFincko Bogan had 10 for UT Martin (3-8), which was within 39-33 at half by making 6 of 15 3-point attempts. Butler had three treys before the break, and Bogan had two.
Mississippi State outscored the Skyhawks 53-28 in the second half, making 21 of 31 field-goal attempts.
The Bulldogs took a 58-36 lead with their first big run of the second half, then stretched the lead to 81-50 with their second.
Mississippi State freshman Abdul Ado had six points and a career-high 12 rebounds, and reserves Eli Wright and Xavian Stapleton had nine points apiece.
UT Martin shot 36.9 percent from the field. Butler had four 3-pointers and Bogan had two.
Holman amassed 12 points and nine rebounds in the first half, and his free throw gave the Bulldogs a 39-33 lead. Peters hit all of his 3-pointers in the first half.
