Luka Garza recorded 22 points and nine rebounds to help No. 4 Iowa notch a 70-55 victory over Purdue in Big Ten play on Tuesday night at Iowa City.
Joe Wieskamp added 17 points and nine rebounds as the Hawkeyes (7-1, 1-0 Big Ten) halted a four-game losing streak in the series with Purdue.
Trevion Williams had 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for the Boilermakers (6-3, 1-1). Brandon Newman added 11 points and eight rebounds as Purdue's three-game winning streak came to an end.
Garza moved into third place in school history with 1,786 career points. He passed Greg Stokes (1,768 points from 1981-85) and Acie Earl (1,779 from 1989-93) on Tuesday.
Garza made 4 of 8 attempts from 3-point range as the Hawkeyes made 12 of 34 attempts from behind the arc. Iowa shot 42.9 percent overall.
The Boilermakers shot 39.7 percent from the field and were 8 of 25 from 3-point range.
Garza drained a 3-pointer to give Iowa a 44-31 lead with 17:47 left but soon headed to the bench after drawing his third foul.
Purdue took advantage to move within 50-42 on a 3-pointer by Newman with 13:35 left. But the Hawkeyes responded with the next five points to get the margin back to 13.
Patrick McCaffery buried a 3-pointer to make it 58-44 with 12:01 remaining and Garza returned 37 seconds later.
Iowa's lead was 15 with eight minutes left, but it missed eight straight field-goal attempts.
The Boilermakers scored eight consecutive points during the drought -- five straight by Newman and a 3-pointer by Sasha Stefanovic -- to move within 62-55 with 3:53 left.
Connor McCaffery ended the Hawkeyes' funk with a putback with 3:25 remaining. Just 57 seconds later, Garza drained a 3-pointer to give Iowa a 67-55 advantage with 2:28 to play.
Jordan Bohannon knocked down his third 3-pointer of the game and 300th of his career with 42.7 seconds left as the Hawkeyes closed it out.
Garza registered 14 points and seven rebounds in the first half as Iowa held a 37-27 lead.
