The Champions League odds are on the move again after some shocking results in Round 4 of the competition.

Two heavyweights, Man City and Real Madrid, were both dealt multi-goal defeats, while Liverpool held firm to maintain their perfect 100% record and rise up the odds board.

Favorites to win the 2024-25 Champions League

Manchester City (+351)

It was all going smoothly for Manchester City—until it wasn't.

With recent losses in the EFL Cup and Premier League on their minds, City traveled to Portugal and were stunned by a 4-1 defeat.

They conceded a hat-trick to Viktor Gyokeres — the man who just can't stop scoring (11 goals in his last five games)—and missed a penalty of their own.

Despite the loss, Manchester City remain the betting favorites on the Champions League odds board.

Like Man City, Real Madrid suffered a shock defeat — this time to AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Real Madrid couldn't muster any of the late-game magic we're so accustomed to seeing.

With the loss, their odds have lengthened — though only slightly.

The road ahead doesn't get any easier for Los Blancos, who now travel to England to face Liverpool before heading to Italy to take on Atalanta.

Barcelona (+550)

After Barcelona's opening loss to Monaco, many quickly wrote them off as a non-factor this season.

But since then, they've hit their stride, scoring 14 goals — including an impressive four against Bayern Munich.

Their latest victim, Crvena Zvezda, were thrashed 5-2, with Robert Lewandowski bagging a brace.

Thanks to this sustained form, Barcelona's odds have been slashed from +900 to +550.

Liverpool (+600)

"Liverpool are the only team left standing with a perfect 100% record.

They earned full marks in their latest game, a 4-0 home win against a strong Bayer Leverkusen side that scores goals for fun in the Bundesliga.

With the victory, they extend their lead atop the Champions League table and see their odds shorten.

Arsenal (+703)

Things are just not going smoothly for Arsenal right now, and the results speak for themselves.

They’ve managed just one meaningful win in their last five games across all competitions, and their latest defeat to Inter Milan has dropped the Gunners to 12th place — among the teams that would need to play in a playoff game.

With Sporting on deck (hello, Viktor Gyökeres), things could get even worse for the Gunners.

2024-25 Champions League Format

The Champions League format we've all known to love is changing (perhaps for the better), so let's break it down:

• Instead of having 32 teams split into eight groups, there will now be one league that houses all 36 qualified teams.
• Each team will play eight games against randomly selected opponents (based on pot seedings) — four home and four away. 
• Three points for a win, one point for a draw. 
• The Top 8 teams on point total will qualify for the Round of 16, while the teams that finish between 9th and 24th will play a two-legged playoff with the winners securing their spot in the Round of 16. 
• From there, the competition will continue as normal with a two-leg home and away fixture for each tie onwards until the Finals which is a winner-take-all match at a neutral venue. 

The Champions League draw will take place on August 29, 2024, and the tournament will get underway on September 17, with the league portion wrapping up on January 29, 2025.

• Spanish clubs have won the most combined Champions Leagues of any country, with Real Madrid winning 15 and Barcelona winning five.
• Italian club Juventus has been to nine finals — only to lose seven times.

These odds are constantly adjusted throughout the summer as players get hurt, suspended or transfer. Once the season begins, title odds will change as teams win and lose games and as more players get hurt or are suspended. Sportsbooks will also adjust the Champions League odds based on handle and liability to certain teams.

Champions League odds will usually look like this:

• Bayern Munich +250

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $250 if Bayern wins the Champions League. If it's close to the end of the tournament you might see that a team has a minus sign (-) ahead of its odds. 

• Barcelona -120

This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on a Barcelona championship.
