Esports betting supplier Oddin.gg has secured a three-year sports betting license from the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC).
The Prague-based company now has four licenses in the U.S. from New Jersey, Colorado, and a temporary license from West Virginia. Additionally, the company is licensed to operate in Ontario.
“Securing a license from the Ohio Casino Control Commission is a significant step in our North American journey," commented Oddin.gg CEO Vlastimil Venclík. "Ohio is poised to become one of the most dynamic betting markets in the US, and gaining this approval after meeting the state’s rigorous standards is a true reflection of our commitment to integrity and excellence both in Ohio and beyond."
Ohio sports betting sees more changes
The regulated Ohio sports betting market launched on Jan. 1, 2023, and esports betting has been legal ever since. There are dozens of sportsbooks in Ohio that provide betting lines on esports, including BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, ESPN BET, Fanatics, FanDuel, Hard Rock Bet, and more.
Oddin.gg's entry continues a year of significant changes for the Ohio betting market. Earlier this year, Betfred announced it was stopping its operations in Ohio. Superbook confirmed it was withdrawing from the state at a similar time, while Betway, one of Oddin.gg’s most prominent partners, also exited Ohio amid plans to shutter its U.S. operations.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission has also cracked down on illegal options, with Bovada prohibiting Ohio players from registering after the OCCC sent the operator a cease-and-desist letter.
“Ohio's market is gearing up to be something special, and we’re excited to help operators tap into that potential," Venclík added. "As esports betting continues to evolve, Oddin.gg is ready to provide the expertise, technology, and support to make sure our partners succeed.”
Oddin.gg continues US expansion
The Ohio expansion follows several recent moves from Oddin.gg to expand into the U.S.
In July, the company obtained a temporary license from the West Virginia Lottery and partnered with Bill Pascrell III in November to help its U..S growth. Pascrell brings prior experience as Counsel to the Governor of New Jersey, and Oddin.gg added him to help navigate U.S. regulations.
In addition, Oddin.gg has also signed several partnerships to provide new avenues for betting, recently announcing itself as the first company to offer sports betting on the early development game Deadlock.
Oddin.gg was founded in 2018 and has partnered with several global gambling companies to provide B2B esports betting services, including Betway, Betsson, and Dafabet.
