YTD: 42-32
Obviously the game isn¡¯t until 11 September so the Sun gets two days rest and Aces I believe 4 days rest. These two teams met three times in the reg season with Aces winning the series 2-1. Let¡¯s look at these games
30 May: Aces won 89-81 in Vegas.
The pace was fast, both teams took over 72 attempts. Combined for around 44% from the floor. Horrible three point shooting, both only hit 6 each from 22 and 25 attempts. The Aces lead 23-21 after the 1Q and took an 8 point lead into the half and didn¡¯t look back. For the Aces, Aja had 24, Young 21, Plum 18, Gray 13 and Hamby 9. Stokes had 4. For Sun, they got points from Bonner 14, Williams 13, Brionna Jones 12, Alyssa Thomas 12 and then Heidemann and Jonquel had 8. Few others off the bench hand a handful of points but let¡¯s focus on the starters as we will see them for at least 32+ mins per finals game I believe.
2 June: Sun won 97-90 in Vegas.
the Sun came out very hot, 37-22 after the 1Q with them shooting 15/18 in the first quarter. Somehow the Aces got it back to within 3 by the half. The Sun however were able to hold the lead the entire second half which is a good sign. Aces got 26 from Young, 23 from Plum, 15 from Hamby, 13 from Aja and 8 from Gray. For the Sun they got 20 from Jonquel, 19 from Bonner, 18 from Williams, 16 from Thomas and 10 from Brionna. Everyone scored well for the Sun.
17 July: Vegas won 91-83 in Conn.
Aces actually started horrible this game, only had 14 points in the 1Q and were down 20-14 going into the 2Q. The 1H was low scoring with the Sun leading 37-35. But the second half was a different story, Aces came out and won the 2H 56-46. Aces got 22 from Plum, 21 from Gray, 20 from Aja, 12 from Young and 11 from Riquna. For the Sun, healthy scoring once again across the whole team with Bonner dropping 19, Heidemann 16, Brionna 16, Williams 16 and Jonquel only played 3 mins.
The books have released the Futures with Conn at +220 which seems about right but I do see it being an uphill battle for them. Hammon will no doubt play her starters massive mins each game and will have Hamby off the bench along with Riquna. Doubt anyone else sees playing time. Miller for the Sun likes to distribute his mins around and they got quite deep. Not sure if Sims sees much action as she is a turnover queen. Interesting to also note that Aja and Gray in the three games so far haven¡¯t done too much, especially Gray. See if her form from the Storm series carries over to this series.
The line is out and it¡¯s Aces -6 and 169.5 total. All three games did go over that number and we have seen that both these teams love to push the pace as well. I don¡¯t expect the Sun to be able to stop Aces offense and guess they will try and out shoot them which is hard to see as the Sun aren¡¯t the best shooting team from down town unlike the Aces. Should be a good series, BOL everyone.
