Last night was at Casino Lac Leamy (across the border from Ottawa, ON).
Playing 1-2 NL a guy raises utg to 15. 2 callers. Im on the button with 99. I only have $50 in front of me. Im thinking either all in or fold. I shove. The original raiser 4bets his remaining stack (he only had $20 more than me). 1st caller folds, 2nd guy tanks for 5 mins then folds queens face up!. Of course, the flop comes Q-9-3. Turn a Queen, river a 9. If that old nitty bastard calls with the queens I lose with quads over quads and I would of won $140,000 of the 280,000 bad beat jackpot, he wins 70k and everyone else at the table gets 8k. He only needed to call $55 into a $165 pot with queens and he layed it down! Seriously wanted to reach over the table and strangle this guy. Didnt even apologize to anyone after.

At the casino I play at (Sands in bethlehem PA) the bad beat was at over 400k.
Recently, a guy was in his hand with Q10 suited..the raise to him was 15 or 20$ and he decided to fold and answer his phone that was ringing. Long story short, he flopped a straight flush and the other guy in the hand would have rivered quad kings.
I wasn't at the table, but the story is making its rounds around the casino

Suppose the flop doesn't come Q,9,?. The "nit" just fucked off $55. Over the long haul poker to be profitable you have to worry about what you don't lose more than what you win. $55 into a $165 pot when he thinks he is up against at least one pair bigger than his queens, IMO its a good fold.

True but you also have to consider the context of the table. Maybe 5 years ago thats an easy fold to make, but poker has changed a lot and the games are much looser than before. 3 and 4 bets pre are now standard even at a 1/2 table. My shove did not look strong at all.

I would never have folded QQ, especially to random people at the table and I had already invested $15 and it would only cost me a max of $55 more (no chance of being put all-in). Its not like the old guy who plays a hand every 4 hours made a three bet......

lol care to elaborate? Obviously in hindsight knowing the flop I would just call but if you think just calling for more than 25% of your stack is a good play then you are delusional.

You absolutely must consider the context of the table and 1/2 tables typically feature 3-4 bets. That being said if a player reads they are behind, the proper play is to fold. Additionally if the odds don't favor making the call, the correct play is a fold unless you read something different. Even if 1 of the 2 players in front of him have an overpair, the queens are behind 4-1 and the pot isn't laying the proper odds. It isn't far off, so a call wouldn't be a bad play, but folding isn't either.

These stories go around, But I was at the Taj Mahal and the Bad Beat was over 600k and a guy folded something like 79 suited to a $2 dollar raise.. this was at the 2/4 limit tables.. You know how the story goes.. nobody folds at a 2/4 limit table LOL

I would blame your own shove before blaming the guy for folding. Qs is not that great of a hand with multiple people in the pot. Also, the guy is probably battle scared due to getting multiple bad beats before with Qs or Js by fucktards going all in pre-flop with 9s

I wouldn't shove with 9's in a cash game, but with that much money in front of me with $15 to $20 in the pot, it's the right play for fold equity. That's the great irony here: the shove doesn't induce a call but more often induces a fold from others and possibly the raiser.
Still the Queens fold by the nit is brutal given those stack sizes. Did he really believe either guy had one of the two hands that would beat him with so little money in front of them? Unlikely...

It's not a bad play on the button for $50. You are a dope, anyone with only $50 in front should make the same move.

Its definitely not a good play either. 1 raiser, 2 callers behind him. The two callers behind him obviously know there's still 1 left to act. Maybe he was playing too tentatively, but you were playing too loose at the hip. You take on equal, if not more blame than he.

the queens fold is terrible, the shove with 99 is his only play, but its funny when someone sitting with 25 blinds in a 1/2 game wants to comment on anyone's play

Every individual has a different philosophy.. As for me, I would have just called....thinking that I'm getting a lot of value in this spot to call, and if I don't hit a set with my 99s or the flop has over cards to my 99s, I'd have money left for the next hand because it's a 1-2 NL, But that's just me.

GeeGee, your own nitwitted play cost you the bad beat. 1 under the gun raiser tells you you are almost assuredly behind, not taking into consideration the other 2 players that already called. You are dodging at wrost 2-3 over cards and probably a better pair. Call for the $15, you are in the best position possible (on the button) If you hit, you quadruple up maybe more, if you dont then see how the action go's on the flop. An 8 high flop maybe you shove, an over card or two you fold. And what are you playing with such a short stack for?!!??! This is almost all your FAULT, not some "nit." lol Another guy who thinks cash games should be played like Tournaments. THEY SHOULDN'T, almost a completely different game!!!!
