Much has been made about the tipping habits of certain people in the do's and don't thread.
So what do you tip while in Vegas???
I tip the valet and cab drivers a few bucks on every ride.
I tip cocktail waitresses $1-2 per drink.
I tip 15-25% on meals based on service and attitude of server.
I tip dealers usually only on a winning session unless the dealer has really made my time more enjoyable while losing. I'd say my avg tip is 2-3 times my normal bet on that table.
If I stiff anyone it's probably the maids. It's not right but usually depends how I did on my trip. Either no tip or $5-10 bucks per stay. And I never destroy my room or make a mess. Usually only get cleaning service every other day.

Sounds about right VV. Not bad for an out of towner.
Being in the industry I always over tip. I work for tips as a bartender in a local gaming bar so I make sure I tip EVERYONE. You just never know when its going to come back to you. Part of my job is promoting my shifts. If that means bouncing around from bar to bar on my night off and getting friendly with the other bartenders in my area and dropping a $40 tip at each bar...then thats what i do.
The locals really do tip well in this town. The standard for locals is 10% of a jackpot at the bar. I usually pay out about 4-5K a night at my bar. So do the math . An average shift is around $500-$550 a night. Of that $ on my days off I need to hit up other bars and tip big and play poker at their bars in order to keep them coming back in my bar. Its a running joke that all that money is just revolving around 50-60 bartenders in vegas. I have friends that write tickets at a lot of books so anytime I cash out anything I usually tip 10% there as well. $2-3 bucks a drink at casinos...$5-6 if I am winning. I tip the cooks in the bars if I hit something nice. Always tip the kid at the golf course who loads and unloads my bag and cleans my clubs after each round.
It is just a known fact to never stiff anyone that is bringing you something out here or you will wait forever. Even that buck or two I am very gratefull as a bartender. It adds up and you can usually make around 80-90$ an hour out here. But when you get a round of drinks for someone and they stiff you it is soo easy to just keep walking by that person for the next hour till they leave.
What a lot of people have no concept about is that at a resturant a server has to tip out his staff (busser-bartender-back waiter-food runner) based on his sales at the end of the night. So when you go in there and ring up a $200 tab and leave $6 on the table that server is actually losing money because you sat in his section. Granted if you got bad service then fuc k em...but if they gave good service in the future at least try to throw them 10% min to cover their nut.

That's usually what I tip as well...good service and attitude will get you far.
I usually play the dealers tips...otherwise after a good session I'll get them as they're leaving.
The maids are the ones I forget about most of the time...I never leave a big mess, or trash the place. Usually just ask for extra towels and that sorta stuff. Otherwise every other day sounds like a reasonable amount to have the room cleaned up.

How about buffets? What's the etiquette? We always just throw a five spot and a little more if they keep the drinks full and the plates cleared. It seems a lot of people do not tip at buffets.

Usually a buck for every drink sucked down at the table...A $5 spot is good as long as you dont sit there all day. You may laugh but a buffet server is a great job at a busy place. Most servers I know that work there usually get a 6 table station. They average $30 an hour in tips and $7 in hourly. ....That is $61,000 a year to bring you pepsi and clear your dirty dishes.

When I sit in a book to watch games I normally tip $2-$4 per drink. The $2 is for Beer and $4 for long islands.
At buffets it's normally just me unless I take someone who is visiting, so I tip $5-$15 if it's just me, and x 2 if someone is joining me. The buffets are free for me and servers normally keep my drink full which is all I care about. I said drink, sorry, but I intended to say Herbal Tea, Water, and lemonade all at once, so I keep keep the server busy.
At the Book I bet so often that at times I pass up tipping them after a payout, but I go to the same handful of people at the window, and when I place a large wager they normally smile too because they know a nice tip is soon to come. I only tip at the three casinos I frequent the most and the ones that take care of me, so I won't tip at MGM or Caesars (unless it's one girl at the window) due to how I have been treated during the past. I am on a limit at Caesars, so I rarely go there now.
I never take cabs, but I would obviously tip them if I did.

This isnt the response you are looking for, but I since it deals with gambling and tips, I thought I'd share one of my favorite ways to tip:
I play a lot of poker, so we have cocktail waitresses coming over often for drinks. I am in my 20s, and most of them are the same age, so I naturally want to bang them. After I get my drink, I quickly ask, "how many kids do you have?" I tip $1 for each kid they have, and then I get a little info, and the tip is 'cute'. If they have no kids, boom, they get a red bird, and they always have a big smile. Its a good way to break the ice if you want to try hooking up later.
The other is for the strip clubs. Not sure if its considered a tip, but instead of $1 bills, goto the bank and get a bunch of $2 bills. This will be a hit
