Covas.....
You really are in need of a Leroy's kiosk.....
Do you have any idea how many bettors put $2 to show on a 1/5 horse and get/want a free drink?......
Associating free drinks with sports betting is a joke....there is no connection, whatsoever, to what the casino does for its gamblers at the slots or table games and what the sportsbook goes through with those that think that they should be getting booze for bets.
And, my friend, once you get your wish and all books have self-betting machines...you can kiss any free drink goodbye.

Las Vegas Hilton doesn't even FOOL with drink tickets. you just show the cocktail waitress your bet and she brings you drinks.
"flea bumb heaven"

Gotta ask.....Do you play blackjack? Did you EVER tip the dealer?....Bet you did!!
I have known many sportsbook writers and have to disagree with your opinion of the ease of the job...especially compared to how easy it is to be a dealer....and, trust me, dealers make far more in "take home money" than any writer in any book.
Not only is the computer system...archaic in most books...an issue; but the complexity of bets taken, both sports and race, the speed that some bets have to be written (especially horseracing), and the constant amount of money changing hands is a hundred time more difficult than anything any dealer does...with the exception of the craps table that is fully taken and has major players moving their bets as fast as possible...Even then, you have several dealers and a table boss, as well as the pit boss, keeping their eyes on the game....Not so in the sportsbook.
The amount of information that the writer has to have for the customer is amazing....all the different combination of bets that can be made...just even in football...is complex. On a day like today.....college football, NBA, NHL. Baseball, and all the other sporting events...from auto to soccer....add to that some 30 racetracks running....
AND...ADD TO THAT....JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE WALK UP TO THE WRITER AND SAY: "I'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE..."....
Frankly, it makes dealing a piece of cake....and, once again, please believe me.....Dealers make much more money than any writer in Vegas...PERIOD!
And, one more.....and please understand, I am answering you with respect to your point and not to bash what you have said...just to illuminate.....The drink policy is NOT set by any writer....The Director of Food and Beverage, along with the Casino Director usually are the ones involved.....The Management of the book tries to do what it can to placate the customers...and as pointed out above....each book can be different (especially in the MGM world)....BUT, the writer is only the "messenger" here....and wanting to "shoot the messenger" is unfair and, frankly, wrong.
An invitation: One of my favorite books on the Strip (although I prefer local) is NY-NY....As I have mentioned before, not because of the seats, tv's, etc.....BUT, the writers...especially during the daytime....are very personable, they recognize repeat customers by name, and have never responded negatively when not tipped; Next trip to Vegas, stop by there (morning/afternoon...I do not know the night crew)...and let me know what you think.

Don't be a tourist.I've found "free" drinks to be weak/questionable.If you're betting 200-300 or more and you need a drink buy it.I always limit my drinking until all my bets are down,Vegas is way too dangerous to be intox and holding a bankroll.
First rule: Always protect the Bankroll.

Ha Ha! Very true. Sit in a book for about an hour, especially on a weekend, and you will hear this question alot. I bet that question and "Where are the restrooms?" are tops for SB writers.

Shaker.....been that way for a while now.....Most of the MGM properties, Bellagio aside, have drink restrictions for sports bets and no drink restrictions for horserace bets....
And, gonna say it again....unless you're having a bottled beer, these drinks are "well liquor" and watered down by the service bar....If you need to make a sports bet to get a free, lousy drink..then you need to think again about why you are betting.
Seriously guys, this is a "tired subject"....

I remember sitting at the Rio sportsbook last year and getting free drinks the whole time......Just tipped the cocktail waitress as I normally would sitting at a table. Do they not make the rounds at other sportsbooks??
I love Vegas, wish I was there now and out of this miserable cold/wind/snow out East!!!!
