Going Sunday, March 6 until Friday morning, the 10th i think. Anyway, its 8 guys, all 21-23, seniors in college trying to add our last cap to our collegiate careers. Wondering if any of you had any advice, as I've never been before. Me and two of my better friends going gamble, relatively so. I'm more of a sportsbook kind of guy, but i'll be at the tables a bit while i'm there. I don't anticipate the others in the group doing quite as much gambling.
I plan on taking about $500 down for expenses, and taking the 700 i pulled off betphoenix to wager with. I have 4 UNC-Duke tickets that I plan on unloading for about another 800 between students here and stub-hub, which i'd put towards my bankroll (if you'll call it that) if you guys think 500 is enough for expenses. Most of us have girls, so I don't foresee too many strip clubs in my future, but I'll make an appearance or two. I only include that b/c I'm not there to pick up trim. I'm more than happy looking, but just wanted to let whoever giving advice know following ass isn't most of our top priority.
Just looking for good value, ways to stretch our dollar, books to hit, good ways to play for cheap on the tables without going broke. To a $20 a hand blackjack table, 700 can go quick.
Any and ALL advice welcome,
Thanks

I'd just say since it's your virgin trip, soak it all in first couple days.Keep a daily budget.Depends where you are staying to offer advice on table play and minimums, ask the pit boss. They are more than willing to help.Get a layout of the land and then hit them hard into the week.
Whatever casino you hit, sign up for a players card, could be some free play available and that means free cocktail service with tip of course,or you'll never see the server again.Same in the sportsbook, make a few bets and get the drink coupons, but always tip generously.
Don't be one of those groups you see every now and then, acting rowdy and shitfaced and immature. If you have to puke,do it quietly in the bathroom
You seem to have your shit together, have a great ass trip. and grab a $1 and $5 chip from every casino you hit.If someone told me this 30 years ago my first trip, those chips are $$$$$ now.

I sent a friend request capper. To both of you, thanks for the info, its much appreciated. We're gonna be at the MGM Grand. The tickets are lower level, section 106. If you're familiar with the layout of the Dean Dome, 106-107 are center-court so a great view. If the tickets are where they were last time they're about even with the 3pt line or so. Theyre row V, so not trying to pretend like they're old money seats, but theyre definitely quality. Let me know what you think. There's a chance they'll change to upper level. My uncle is a Harris Teeter CEO so they're from him. If a more important vendor is in town then his nephew gets bumped to the upper level haha.

As somebody who has gone out with other younger guys a couple times, many on limited bankrolls, I find it important to find a way to take up a good chunk of your day/night with none gambling activities. Walk down the strip, check out every casino/book just to see the design, layout, etc etc. Stop in at Casino Royale and grab a few $1 beers and just stroll the strip and have fun.
Try to find the $5-$10 minimum tables at some of the lower end places (Flamingo, Ballys, Casino Royale, Bills, IP, etc). Obviously the $ lasts longer there.
Take in a show if needed.
Head downtown one night and see everything down there for something to do (generally lower gambling limits down there).
If everybody likes watching sports, then definitely work in some time to just sit around and watch a few games. Even if you just put $20 down, it's always entertaining and something to root for.
Also, for $33, I found this a quality deal and a good time, especially for younger people. Funny show, and all the booze you can drink:

South point! cheap and off strip. 75 cent hot dogs, 1 dollar roulette, 3 dollar craps and a comfy relaxed sports book with good views of the TV. Race book is in different area so it doesnt get over crowded with cubicles. Its not flashy and the servers are not sexy but the people are friendly and its very comfortable and cheap.

Bro, it's good that you have a plan. My first trip was spontaneous and I made too many trips to the ATM and credit card advance windows. Before I knew it, I was over my head.
The MGM is a decent location. 500 for food is OK if you stay with the fast food, IMO. The MGM has a food court hidden away with Chinese, pizza, etc.
Hooters is across the street if you need to feed a $5 table itch.
The Excalibur is across the street too. It's pretty low end but if you are down and out towards the end of the trip...present your MGM Players card at the Sports Book's Bar and you can get a decent hot dog and a draft beer for something like 3.99.
Further up the strip, there are cheap tables at O'Shea's, IP, and Casino Royale (I think). There is a BK inside O'shea's that I tend to hit as I am doing a walk of shame near Ceasar's.
Enjoy yourself and take your time. 24 hours a day is a long time. Get sleep. I wish I took my own advice on my first few trips.
Last thing: Don't bother with the strip clubs. They are overpriced. You will have drunk trim all around you. Girlfriend or not, you will have options.
Have fun.

I would stay away from the strip clubs as well. Just not worth it if you are on a budget. $40 entry fee, $15 beers, $30 cab, another $100 on lap dances. Yes a Vegas strip club is something you should experience at least once in your lifetime but maybe you should save that for when you are done with school and have a job.
Although O'Sheas is a dump, its a lot of fun for a limited budget. Most table games are $5, they sell $2 beers at the bar, and in the back they have beer pong tournaments, great for you college guys.

I see your "crews" roll through my restaurant all the time...and the only REAL advice that works with every group is this: When you find out who the "drag(s)" on the group are...CUT 'EM LOOSE!! Doing everything with your full group will become an exercise akin to herding cats (take it from a Shepherd;)...when he/she/they become dead weight, drop 'em and let 'em fend for themselves! My PERSONAL advice is to plan on a dinner or two at a nice restaurant (since there are so many good/great ones out here!), see at least ONE show (c'mon...Cirque, Jersey Boys, Phantom, Peepshow...something!), "kill" one night enjoying the Fremont Experience, and if you dudes want to get into a club for free...eat at the restaurant "attached" to the club.

This thread has some of the best advice that I have ever seen in this forum.........
I'll add a little.....
Since you already bet sports (with your offshore), and there are hundreds of places in this country to bet table games now, MAKE GAMBLING THE VERY LEAST OF YOUR PRIORITIES....
As was said, put down a $20 bill on a game that you want to watch with beers and burgers and enjoy.....
DO NOT TRY TO MAKE MONEY IN VEGAS...just enjoy the gambling aspect as entertainment...especially downtown.
Frankly, people watching....in a club, a bar, a sportsbook, etc..can be a blast...especially if you're with your crowd and just enjoying the vibes.
Spend one night with an 8 o'clock dinner reservation, dressed decently, at a restaurant that you would not normally go to back home....no chains....Happy to help you with advice on those....Vegas has become the #1 destination in the country for top chefs to set up shop....the right place can be a great memory.
Don't be afraid to be a "tourist"...especially in a hotel like The Grand....When you don't act like you own them, the workers in a major hotel like The Grand can give you wonderful service...and, YES, PLEASE TIP WELL....most workers in this town are hourly workers under $15 an hour...many, like the bartenders and waitresses, work two jobs...one union for benefits and one for cash.
This town offers the best "vacation value...$$$$" in the country. You can enjoy it at whatever level you are comfortable with. Expecting more, or something for nothing, is what creates the negativity....Las Vegas exists "for you"....BUT not "because of you"....Hope that makes sense.
Enjoy,
VG

Good shit guys, I'm pretty excited. To Shep, I definitely already know who the drags are gonna be, and I've already thought of a few ways to lose them. Were 8 fraternity brothers, but for the kids that don't know, not necessarily 8 good friends. We have smaller groups that I anticipate will branch off.

Good to mark the potential hazards...another thing I forgot about is that one or two won't have your money managing/planning skills, and will find themselves reaching into their pockets again and again for something that just ISN'T there! Just try to have fun with them...
Oh...and totally forgot that you need to at least check out Cosmopolitan and Aria...Cosmo is one of the coolest new places to see and be seen, and is what the "future of Vegas" looks like, if you ask me...Boutique Resorts. Can't wait to see that pool in the warmer weather . Oh, and to ANYONE who reads this and is coming to/lives in Vegas...I work at STACK in the Mirage and can get you 20% off your dinner as well as entry to JET for nothing! It's a great deal for a pretty damn good restaurant...and they WANT us to bring people in...so it will be helping ME, too

Betting on future plays (ex: Over/Under MLB Win Totals) is also a good idea instead of just betting on games. You can always bet on these with your offshore account, but I prefer to make these types of plays in Vegas, because it makes me feel more comfortable.
D1, if you do decide to bet often, I wish you the best of luck. I think it's good that some on here are suggesting to make small plays, since you can always bet from your offshore account.
Have a great trip!

How reliable is it to mail in tickets like this? Also, what amount with around a 1k bankroll should I make with these wagers where my money is gonna sit for $6 months. I know a friend of mine mailed a couple single game winners in, but it just worries me sending a winning ticket across the country. I personally feel my strongest sport by far is baseball. That grand from BP came all from a 2 month stretch, not so impressive except I never play more than $50 a game. So obviously another reason to keep up with the season, say on the Royals, Cubs under wins totals, but I just hate the idea of letting money sit that long for basically an even money investment.

Also, any chance I can find some good poker within my BR limit? A few buddies and I play regularly, and I thought that would be a great way to extend a day (hopefully haha) for cheaper by buying into a live tourney or cashgame. The thing is, on a $700 limit I can't really afford the variance of 10% going on something that unpredictable, not that i'm any good to begin with. I play .25-.50 online and do well, and always seem to do better live, but I was worried if I sat down playing $1-2 that being faced with a standard 3x BB raise would alter my play since that was an hourly wage just a couple years ago. Again thanks for all the help, any advice is welcome

You should have no problems mailing in tickets. You can always ship the tickets so they require a signature. Just protect yourself.
Some of the casinos have time lines on the tickets being valid so you want to verify with the book you use how long you have to cash out.

if you're worried about calling $300 all in with your queens preflop, there are a lot of small buyin tourneys, that will last for awhile. they run all the time, just check any vegas poker site, it will list tourneys from $20 and up.

many 1-2 nl tables have a 200 max buy in, dont buy in for the min if its 40 or 60, it will disappear quickly, you can buy in for 100 or 120 and play normal without feeling too short stacked. if this is your first time at a BnM, be ready for 6+ players on almost every flop. mgm used to be 200 max buy in on the 1-2 a few years ago, cant comment on it now. my advice is, if you play 1-2, you have to bet/raise BIG post flop when you have a hand and you DONT want players chasing draws. if not, once 1 person calls, too many ppl get priced in.
im not sure if its still there, but there was this small, almost carnival like, 'horse racing' game next to the sports book. imagine a large dome hockey table, but with 4 horses and a track instead of a hockey rink. basically you bet on what horse you think will win. it was a blast and i had a lot of success meeting/picking up women while playing that thing with my friends, plus it seemed like the waitress walked by more often.
