parlay card question?

Maybe VG or some of you other locals can help me out here. Those parlay cards that are sitting out for bettors to fill out... it says a 4 team parlay pays 10-1 on it. Assume you bet $10 on one, why does it only pay $90 when you win? You'll get back a total of $100, but shouldn't you be getting back $110? That's how offshore books pay you. And I thought I remember a SB employee telling me a long time ago that, that's how those cards work. She said if I were to walk up to the counter and just tell them my 4-team parlay, it would pay back $110 on a $10 bet. Is that accurate or am I just imagining conversations that I had? Thanks.

I believe it has to do with the terminology of 10 FOR 1 (On the cards) and 10 TO 1 odd elsewhere..

EXACTLY!!! 10 FOR 1 is TOTALLY different than 10 TO 1

Thanks guys, it's been a few months since I've been to Vegas, so don't remember the terminology on the cards. That would make complete sense though and explain it.

As for the second part of my question, do you guys know if the odds are different if you don't use those cards at the counter? I could've sworn I heard that somewhere... that you can can 10 TO 1 at the counter by just stating your parlay rather than filling out the card. Or maybe I was just dreaming.

So, I guess 4 team parlays in Vegas pay 10 FOR 1 or 9 to 1? Is this correct?

A parlay using the current board lines pays:

2-items.....13 to 5

3 items.....6 to 1

4 items....10 to 1...to answer your statement...a $10 parlay on a "4-teamer" gets you back $110

5 items....20 to 1

Any more and you are playing with fire...

Thanks VG. So, parlays are 10-1 in Vegas like I thought? Is that the case then, that it only pays 9-1 on a 4 teamer when you fill out those cards? Because I remember feeling like I got screwed on the odds way back when I filled on out.

Ogmike- When you bet a parlay at the window you get your money back that you bet plus the odds. Say you bet a 4 teamer for $20. You get back $220. On parlay cards you get $200 back. The reason is that once the cards are printed the lines do not change so cards can end up with a bad number that you can take advantage of. If the line current numbers are the same or better for your side you should bet it at the window. Hope this helps.

10 game parlay card is money in the bank for vegas sportsbooks - just got back last week and saw numerous guys filling out endless parlays crads,,it seems it would be quicker and easier to just toss your cash in the trash can
