carrying cash thru customs

i'm going to atlantis in april. i've never had a problem carrying cash to vegas, but what about thru customs? was planning on taking 10k.

any suggestions?!?

Tape 10k to your underwear in between your legs.

I did it when I use to fly to Vegas and it was exactly 10k. It's not exactly comfortable, but oh well.

theres already a thread on this if you look down like 6 threads. i deff wouldnt tape it to your leg since some airports have the walk through xray machines, and im sure having money taped to your leg wouldnt look very good. just put it in your pocket and take everything out except for the money when going through metal detectors. keep the money together with a rubberband and you shouldnt set and thing off

that thread has to do with flying domestically (vegas, tahoe). my question was more concerned with flying internationally and going through "customs". i was asking if anyone had gone through customs with a large sum of cash? thanks.

That would be taping it to your boxers, not your leg. I forgot about the Xray machines at some airports now. In detail: IT would be taped the inside of your boxers, between your legs, and being the next door neighborhood to your anus.

For me it worked perfectly fine when I did it. I decided to not put the money in my pocket after friends warned me about carrying a large amount of money on me at airports. If I happened to get caught, my response was going to simply be that I felt more secure with it there, and instead of in my pocket increasing my chances of getting robbed....followed by....It's my money B****!!

Google the country where you're going to find out their customs dept phone # or the international customs dept. Then pick up the phone and give them a call re: your question. Its that easy!

I would never carry any large amount of cash on me, why not get it wired instead , or carry something safer like travellers checks

You can take up to 10k internationally without a problem. Just take slightly under 10k and you're fine with no laws being broken. Just keep it in your pocket. There is no reason to tape money to yourself. Most countries welcome their tourists bringing money to spend. Just be careful who's watching in line behind you or near customs if you are asked to show your cash (which I never have been asked in dozens of trips bringing close to 10k to/from central america or the caribbean).

I know when I walked in the airport I was perfectly fine with the money tapped to the inside of my boxers, because A. no one would have an opportunity to see the money and B. I had nothing to worry about.

Having 10k in your pocket can easily standout and people can notice it without you even having to take it out of your pocket. There are some serious experts at picking pockets and the OP will most likely be paranoid as hell with it in his pocket before his flight departs.

i traveled this past weekend and had some money and my credit cards in my pocket so it stuck out a little and when i walked through security the guard made me show him what was in my pocket. I am sure every place is different but that was my experience.
