heading out next wknd for elite 8 wknd. couldn't make it for opening round so thought this would be a good alternative for some MM action!
Two questions:
Where's the best (fast) pizza on the strip?
Will the books still be going nuts this wknd? I assume it wouldn't be like opening rounds, but what can I expect? Will I be able to get a seat an hour befor gametime?

There are two pizza places in NY-NY....the one in the food court is garbage, Sirricos.....the one on the mezzanine that connects to MGM Grand..New York Pizza is one of the best in all of Vegas...but get it fresh out of the oven and not reheated....
Depends which book.....

Thanks VG- tips are always good. It's kinda funny- you get a lot of praise on here for good advice and rightfully so. Props to you for being so helpful when I'm sure you're not getting the same in return nor are you incented to do so...
reason I say "it's kinda funny" above is that usually when someone solicits advice (say on a restaurant) they give you some random place you've never heard of and is prob hard to find and endds up not all that great. The pizza place you mention in NYNY I have literally walked right passed on every trip I've ever made to Vegas but never thought to eat there. It's right by coyote ugly and that stupid little oxygen bar, right? Always walk through there cuz I prefer hanging out in south strip and bouncing thru those hotels. Always smells great but never stopped to try.
As for the book, well I'm semi embarrassed to say I'll be staying at Excalibur this time. Reason is that I found a rate for dirt cheap and I'm just going with a bud of mine. Like everyone says, we'll just be there to sleep for 5 hrs and shower quickly. no big deal. I love the book at Mandalay, but this will prob be one of the more hectic ones.. What are your thoughts on MGM or PH during this wknd? Or maybe even Excal???

Mandalay Bay is my first choice...everyone else comes in third or less...there is no second choice to Mandalay Bay for March Madness...
Having said that, the Elite 8 takes a fraction of the action that the first weekend takes...all sportsbook directors will tell you that...so I would just go where I would be comfortable watching the games (if you plan on staying at a book...also for halftime wagers (which can be the most profitable)....

VG is correct on the pizza at NY-NY, make sure to tell the guy working behind the counter to bring it out to your table as soon as its out of the oven with some oregeno on it. Also, try the garlic knots there. However its not the best pizza on the strip, its second.
The best pizza is inside Wynn Las Vegas in the Esplanade at Pizza Place. Also the cosmopolitan has a pizza place which has no name that is very good.
1. Pizza Place (Wynn)
2. NY-NY
3. Pizza at Cosmopolitan

Dude if you want something fast and good at Excalibur, give a try to Baja Fresh, one of the best quick Mexican places ever. All their stuff is fresh daily. They have awesome burritos, tacos, wraps, etc. Its a quick meal but it's certainly not fast food...

sports books are much more user friendly for elite 8--no prob with seating as lots of the would be gamblers have gone home and many others are short on cash after taking a few days worth of beating--enjoy

haha - not sure what part of the country you're from (or have been I should say), but Baja fresh is a huge chain here in SoCal. Good fast food mexican but nothing out of the ordinary where I'm from. I'm sure it would be great for someone from outside the southwest US where good mexican doesnt exist- excuse me but I cant see your profile- computer is acting up. I'd never eat there while in Vegas tho obviously cuz I could stop by one on my way home from work today should I choose...
Thx anyways!

Exactly why I prefer the second weekend and will be heading down on Thursday .
Also, I like that games don't start until after 4 so you can have a bit more balance in your day. As much as I enjoy watching sports it's a long day when you start at 9am and don't leave the 'book for a good 12 hours

Yes I am from south Jersey, about 30 miles north of AC. No good Mexican joints around me at all, even the closest Baja Fresh is an hour away, only 8 of them in the state. So to me it is a quick, cheap treat. The guy was looking for something cheap and fast, I'd go Baja Fresh over pizza especially since its right in his hotel.
