is there any chance this thing survives 2010? Why?
I hear they offer movie downloads and get new releases 28 days before netflix. despite their brick and mortar disadvantages and huge debt, surely a company with this kind of name recognition can bounce back, right?
Im down for a gamble, I just wanna know how big a gamble it is

Dont do it bro. The days of getting movies from the store are over. All the grocery stores are closing their video sections around my neck of the woods. The only thing that will continue to do well is redbox because it is cheap and convienient.
In a couple years netflix will dominate with downloads striaght to you blu ray or HD tv.....

You would be wasting your time. Their business plan simply can't compete against Redbox or Netflix.
Here is the only way Blockbuster can survive. They would have to file for Chapter 11 and reorganize (as stated above) then completely revamp their setup. No more brick and mortar setup, and basically mimic Netflix and perhaps offer a Redbox style vending setup. They can offer customers the best of both worlds by offering the mailing and streaming services that Netflix offers as well as the vending style that Redbox offers.
I guess if you truly believe this is the route Blockbuster will take and you think they will succeed based on name recognition then I guess it's worth a small gamble but I still don't think it's worth it.

I'm fairly new to investing so I can say how much of a gamble is but I would agree with the everyone else. Blockbuster is not in a good position right now and have a ton of debt.

The reason I'm posting is because add more to DTher85 posting. Blockbuster is starting to put kiosk to compete with Redbox. I haven't seen them in my area but according to their website there are a few around (Twin Cities).
As a Blockbuster Total Access I do like the option of exchanging my mailed movies for free in store movies. You still don't get a movie in the mail until you return the in stores but its great for when its the weekend and you are out of movies.

blockbuster has known for years now they would become obsolete so they tried to change their style up but it didnt work so i dont know how great a gamble it is.

I think the partnership between BB and Wind Mobile could save BB. If BB reorganizes like DTher85 suggested, they could also use their old locations to harbour the new Wind Mobile storefronts. Maybe...?
