Closer Dilemma

I'm sorry for not posting my whole line up in this thread but I'm just looking for some broad advice in general here.

I had to autodraft a standard head to head fantasy league draft this weekend.

I'm just getting around to looking at my line up and it's pretty weak and my pitching kinda sucks. My fault though for skipping the draft.

Anyways, my only closer is Craig Kimbrel. There is a guy in my league that hoarded closers. He has Motte, Papelbon, Valverde, Heath Bell, and one more quality closer that I can't think of right now. But he does have a solid five closers.

Now his line up is pretty solid but not great. His SP situation is about the same as mine: average at best.

I offered him Pablo Sandoval and Ubaldo Jiminez for Paps and Valverde with the option of swapping closers in negotiation if he wanted. He just declined it.

I'm wondering if I should pursue his closers anymore or maybe watch and see if he comes out of the gate slow and try and buy lower.

My biggest trade assets are Pedroia, Cano, Cargo, and Avila(pretty sad I know).

I am of the philosophy of not paying much for closers but where I stand right now, I will lose the Save category every week. So I am basically starting out down a category every week right now.

Any help is appreciated, sorry for being so vague.

i would just scrap the saves category. Try trading kimbrel for another hitter or starting pitcher.

What about Marshall on the Reds? Madson is done for the year. Or Capps on the Twins.

I definitely wouldn't trade Sandoval for a closer. I'd consider Ubaldo for a quality closer, but even then I'd rather have Ubaldo I think. You can always find saves on the waiver wire. So far 2 closers have gone down with injury and the season hasn't even started. Some guys who will get saves this year at some point: Matt Thornton, Brett Myers, Greg Holland, Jonathan Broxton, Sean Marshall, Aroldis Chapman, Matt Lindstrom, Vinnie Pestano, Glen Perkins, Fautino De Los Santos, Sergio Romo, Mike Adams, Francisco Cordero

Hey thanks for throwing those names out there. A few of these guys are still available so I am definitely keeping an eye on them.

right now here's the status of the guys that BrewCrewFan mentioned

Thornton: named closer for CWS but struggled last year and Sergio Santos stepped in..

Marshall: named closer for Reds due to Madson injury and Chapman is setup guy

Broxton/Holland/Crow: all will see SV chances but my guess is Holland will become Full-time closer

Pestano: he's 2nd in line behind Chris Perez but Perez is battling that Oblique injury but should be ready to go but i would snag Pestano cause Oblique's are like the "new" Hamstring injuries, their poppin up everywhere and are a naggin' injury.

Cordero: he's behind Sergio Santos in Toronto and will only see SV chances if Santos struggles

Perkins: 2nd in line behind Matt Capps.. might be a good pickup with how bad capps was last year

Myers: was named astros closer but Wilton Lopez is close behind him and will see action if Myers fucks up which is very likely

Matt Lindstrom: wont see SV opp's unless Batencourt really struggles badly.. not worth a pickup

Adams is behind Nathan in Texas but he's a good reliever, Romo's behind Brian "my beard is ridiculous" Wilson out in Sfran and i honestly dont know who the fuck Fautino De Los Santos is..

i would also try and keep Cano, Pedroia and Cargo together. if u remove one of them for a closer your offense will struggle..

Avila is the full time C with VMart done for the year so he'll hit around .285 with 20+ HR's and 75+ Runs..

Update on the situation.

Marshall and Chapman are taken. I picked up Broxton because I read that he is inline for the job. Every other name on that list is available right now and, looking at other rosters, I don't think I have to worry about anyone else picking them up.

I may jump on Myers soon and just go closers by committee as they fuck up or get hurt.

Thanks for the advice guys. Definitely helps.

I could also use your advice in another thread I am about to post. Please keep an eye out for it.
