I have to think Amendola has the edge but I bet I am in the minority

Minority my aasss.

Welker had a serious knee injury. Too many mouths to feed in Denver.

Amendola has a lot more upside, especially with Brady looking for him now.

That is the way I see it too.

Welker has the name but I think the kid has the rest of it covered especially being the only reliable receiver in Foxboro

Amendola has been the darling of fantasy sleepers over the last few seasons and its put up or shut up time now that hes in NE.

Here are the projections from one source I use;

WELKER (#17 WR) 142 targets - 100 rec/1142 yds/7 TD

AMENDOLA (#24 WR) 127 targets - 89 rec/970yds/5 TD

Tidbits

Welker 11.2 YPC career vs Amdenola 8.8

Amendola only 7 career TDs in 4 seasons

Be careful, slikstiks, try not to subscribe to the "too many mouths to feed" theory. That's not always the case, especially when elite QB's are slinging it 600 times per season. Look at teams like Atlanta or New Orleans. Each has 3 targets that are elite in their own special way and get plenty of action.

With all being said, Welker is on my caution watch (graded yellow). His price will undoubtedly be high, and if that's the case, then I would advise to let someone else gamble on him. I don't think we see the kind of numbers he's had, but he will still be close. He on draft day he starts slipping, then by all means. I think 6th round is a fair price for Amendola, surely a guy worth targeting, but in both cases there are risks involved.

amendola goes from the rams that cannot move the ball to the most potent offense in the league, which he should be the key for

Yes, Amendola goes to a much better offense and should see an increase in his numbers. Welker was able to connect quickly with Brady to the tune of 112 catches his first year in NE. Amendola needs to simply avoid the infirmary and he could have similar success. By all means he should be a fantasy target, and every fantasy manager and their mother knows that. The trick is to get him at the right price.

yeah, in 2010... He came back and put up some of his best numbers of his career after that serious knee injury. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he's recovered from it. He's caught 622 passes in the last 6 years, INCLUDING tearing his ACL/MCL.

You forgot to mention Amendola is coming off a broken collar bone.

I agree Amendola has plenty of upside, but even his best upside won't get close to Welker. Wes Welker all day.

He's played with Bradford and who??? No one..

Now Brady is the QB and Amendola is only 27 yrs old.

I'll take him instead of Welker.

Agreed and disagree at the same time.

Agreed on the injury part, he is fragile.

Disagree on how they use him, I think he catches 90-100 balls this year, middle- deep -everywhere. Who else is Brady going to throw it to?

Word is they are lining him up all over the place on the field. So maybe he wont be a slot guy going up the middle, vulnerable to hits as much as we assume. He is a target, a very intriguing prospect, but this season I'm bearish on him. Don't get me wrong, he's still a target, but the draft will dictate where I take him as he is not worthy of a reach.

i think their ceilings are pretty equal, but far bigger downside with amendola. ocho cinco and brandon lloyd got way too much hype when they joined brady. welker is the best slot receiver of all time. amendola is more comparable to edelman than welker.

i think the projections that bizkilla posted feel about right.

Amendola in the 6th sounds pretty on point im assuming 12 team league...

what would you say Welkers fair price is?

Welker is good we know that, but don't think so much on the past in this case. Think about the team needs and the style of play of each QB. Amendola for sure... He's the # 1 WR on a team of youngsters WR the TE position still in? In Denver lots of weapons , and you know Peyton Manning like to share the rock.

Welker numbers will be good , but don't think in the since of years past. (Amendola)

I agree with the last post...Brady will lean on him big. He could be a monster. Health is always an issue.

I can almost guarantee Amendola doesnt finish the season healthy.....i dont know WHAT it is....maybe the mechanics of how he catches the balls?? (diving too much to make the big grab)....

Or perhaps playing on the turf in St Lou had an effect on him?

Just the way the Pats throw so many underneath routes and rely on the YAC yardage i can just see Amendola taking a beating and eventually running out of durability.

Just my opinion though....

I still stand by my previous posts.

It is possible that Sam Bradford is partly responsible for Amendola injuries. Brady is surgical with this garbage. This is a case where I think preseason is representative of the actual season. Amendola feasts.

Welker gets his, but Amendola is Brady's go-to guy and Brady's go-to guy eats well. I'm talking porterhouses with and egg on top five nights a week.

With that notion, hell be dead by week 9.

On the real, Amendola has been getting praise for his work in camp and is play during the preseason backs that up. Lest not forget that Amendola has been mentioned as a sleeper candidate the last couple seasons. Now he has the best QB of this generation feeding him the rock. I'm also sticking to my gut instinct, its not like I wont draft the guy, its that I'm not willing to pay the price. At least in standard scoring leagues. In PPR, I may very well take hi ahead of Welker.

Amendola hurt again. Not serious, but it's a broken record. If healthy, I would prefer him over Welker, but you have to factor his injury history in IMO.
