Of the 14 available licenses, six will be awarded to Missouri casino operators; six by the state's major professional sports teams — Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Blues, St. Louis City SC, and Kansas City Current — while the remaining two are "untethered" licenses, which DraftKings and FanDuel are likely to pursue.
The journey to legal online sports betting in Missouri dates back years, as the state failed to pass a sports betting bill during the 2023 legislative session. House Bill 556 moved through the House, but the Missouri Senate ran out of time and did not discuss the sports betting legislation.
