Mark Sanchez hit Santonio Holmes with a 37-yard touchdown pass with 16 seconds left in overtime to give the New York Jets a 26-20 victory over the host Cleveland Browns on Sunday in a game featuring many story lines.
Both teams blew chances in overtime before New York (7-2) forced a punt deep inside Cleveland territory that Jim Leonhard returned 18 yards to the Cleveland 37.
On the next play, Sanchez found Holmes on a quick slant. Holmes broke two tackles and sprinted to the end zone for the Jetsกฏ second straight overtime win. They beat Detroit 23-20 last week.
Cleveland (3-6) squandered a chance in overtime when Chansi Stuckey fumbled a completed pass from Colt McCoy inside the Jetsกฏ 35-yard line, but New York couldn't capitalize when Nick Folk missed his third field goal of the game, a 47-yarder that was far right.
After compiling 14 yards of total offense in their first three second-half possessions, McCoy took the Browns 59 yards on 10 plays, connecting with Mohamed Massaquoi for a 3-yard TD with 44 seconds left to pull even 20-20 and force overtime.
McCoy finished 18 of 31 for 205 yards.
Sanchez, who played most of the second half with a right calf injury, led New York on two second-quarter touchdown drives that totaled 156 yards on 20 plays for a 17-13 lead that held up until McCoyกฏs late TD drive. He finished 27 of 44 for 299 yards with two touchdowns and one pick.
Jets coach Rex Ryan coached against his twin brother Rob Ryan, the Browns' defensive coordinator, and Browns coach Eric Mangini was facing the club that fired him two years ago.
