If I was able to ask this question before the creation of the internet it would be neat to see how long it takes to get the right answer. Since the answer can now be found in minutes here is what I'd ask...
Tell me the ONLY two baseball players to be named the MVP and Rookie Of The Year during their careers in the same year?...

Ichiro the more obvious pick. It was semi controversial because of his years and success playing in Japan, and 2001 was not that long ago. I doubt many would have come up with Fred Lynn in 1975, perhaps a couple hardcore Red Sox fans or sum sports loving autistic kid, "Rain Man," I say that affectionately. A tough question.

Last night I was watching a replay of a MLB All Star Game on You Tube, I think it was the one from 1977 that took place in Seattle, Washington and they mentioned Fred Lynn getting this award, naturally I went and asked Uncle Google who else might have done it and what REALLY SURPRISES me is for how many players have played the game ONLY TWO has achieved this...
Lastly I wonder how many guys here seen Fred Lynn play? his name brings to mind the 1976 World Series, one of the best I've seen in my lifetime between the Boston Red Sox and the Cincinnati Reds. Was just ten years old at the time...memories...

When I think of Fred Lynn, I think of Jim Rice too, what a dynamic duo that was. And Rice finished 3rd in the MVP race in 1975 (John Mayberry was 2nd). When's the last time 2 of the top 3 MVP vote getters were on the same team? That's more of a statement than a question, don't know the answer here.

In 1941 (yes, the DiMaggio v. Williams year), the Dodgers Dolph Camilli beat out Pete Reiser and Whit Wyatt to take the NL award. Largely forgotten by the AL vote being between two legends, one of whom is the last man to hit over .400 and the other getting a hit in 56 straight games, one of baseball's unbreakable records.
In 1959, the three White Sox topped the AL vote, with Nellie Fox taking home the award. For what it's worth, Fox and Luis Aparicio, who finished second, combined for eight HR and 121 RBI, while the NL's top two vote getters combined for 91 and 257. In fairness, the Sox did win the AL and Fox had 191 hits in addition to a Gold Glove, so it's not like the award wasn't deserved.

I remember that 1966 world series, we were stationed in Germany, my father a career Army man, took me to the NCO club to watch the games. I had recently became a Sandy Koufax fan and pretty sure I cried when they lost. I hated the Orioles. A few years later when we were back stateside, we went to a Yankees game in Baltimore, sat behind the O's dugout and Jim Palmer looked at me, smiled, then tossed me a baseball. Ok, don't hate Baltimore anymore. I even found a $5 dollar bill there that game. But yes, the Orioles did have sum great players back then, had the 4 twenty game winning pitchers too, McNally, Palmer, Cuellar, and Dobson. You'll never see that happen again!

Knew he had 7 no hitters but I must admit I failed miserably on how many CY YOUNG awards he won. Won't give the answer here, see if someone else honestly knows.

It's a trick question. The answer is zero. With all those no-hitters and throwing so many K's it's hard to imagine but Nolan Ryan never won a Cy Young award. Apparently he played on a lot of s#it teams!

i knew fred lynn (not sure it was tip of tongue.. but i did know it in past for sure).
didn't know suzuki...........
nolan ryan wasn't that great a pitcher... a very good pitcher for a long time... biggest thing was the strikeouts.... i'll look up his CY YOUNG SHARE but i know it isn't impressive

He's in the H.O.F., 1st year inductee, 98.7 percent of votes. Most K's ever, most no-nos, 7, lifetime ERA 3.19, 324 wins, 6.56 hits allowed per 9 IP, lowest ever, you're a tough man to please Rock!

much of what you cite "perception of Nolan Ryan"... he finished 2nd once year in Cy Young. that was his best showing.
Cy Young share amongst modern pitchers.... he trails Cliff Lee and Brandon Webb...... clemens, johnson and maddux won 7, 5, 4 Cy Youngs..... Pedro Martinez had an ERA one season less than half the next best starter in his league.
as i said, Nolan Ryan was a very good pitcher for a long time....... an outstanding pitcher maybe... but never a dominant ERA pitcher.

it got cut off somehow but Nolan Ryan is 37th in Cy Young share amongst modern pitchers (numbers for koufax, drysdale, gibson etc. seem a bit sketchy but the idea is fine)
nolan ryan rates behind cliff lee and brandon webb in all-time Cy Young votes (i'm guessing it's skewed to top-heavy results)

what team did Nolan Ryan win world series with? as player. obscure. i think it's correct.. you probably know it or you don't.
also, modern pitcher who was arguably the ace pitcher for 3 different world series winning franchises?.... on one of the 3 teams, another starter was actually better that season but this pitcher was ace/workhorse/leader/etc.......... if i was on 2p2 forum, i'd be on countdown to be dissed by bert blyleven supporters (does playoff experience matter to greatness? i say it does, even though there is massive luck involved?)

yes, 1969 mets.. and surprisingly to me he played a few seasons for the mets after that.
and jack morris........ originally, I thought it was 4 franchises but only 3... and 4th world series with Toronto (he won 2 in toronto) but he was ineffective/injured that season.s\
I read Dick Williams book.. he managed Ryan/Tanana on Angels. Williams hated those teams so much. my guess it was more hitters than pitchers... .Williams = awesome manager but seems like unhappy person.

Is there any projection of how many home runs Ken Griffey Jr. would have had without injuries? basically killed the final 40% of his career.
and the assumption is KG didn't juice.......... he was never that big, and didn't get much bigger than when he was young (not all guys who got much bigger over time juiced.. but I think if you didn't get much bigger over time, then pretty sure you didn't juice.
