The NHL is back in the swing of things after the holiday break with a nine-game slate spread throughout the day on Sunday.
I’ll be focusing on three of the later games for today’s NHL player props, including a pair of veterans to get on the board while another winger lays low on the shot total.
Read on for my NHL picks for Sunday, December 29.

- Jack Eichel 1+ assist (-150 at DraftKings)
- Jamie Benn 1+ point (-135 at DraftKings)
- Travis Konecny Under 2.5 shots on goal (-122 at FanDuel)
Picks made on 12-29 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Prop bet #1: Jack Eichel 1+ assist
Jack Eichel is leading the Golden Knights with 47 points and is among the league leaders with 37 assists. The top-line center has been the motor for Vegas this year and deserves some consideration for the Hart Trophy.
Eichel is averaging over an assist per game this season and has been rather consistent while doing so. He's picked up an assist in 23 of 35 games and is riding a three-game assist streak with helpers in five of his last six games overall.
Vegas has one of the best home-ice advantages in the sport and Eichel has benefitted from that. He's recorded an assist in 12 of 17 home games, including back in October against the Flames.
Prop bet #2: Jamie Benn 1+ point
The Dallas Stars have been battling through some injuries recently but captain Jamie Benn is powering through.
Benn has picked up a point in two straight, seven of his last eight, and nine of his last 11 games. He’s also recorded a point in four of his last five games against Chicago, including two of three contests this season.
The Blackhawks are coming off a 6-4 loss to the lowly Sabres on Friday night and have allowed a total of 16 goals in their last three games. This should be a good opportunity for the Stars to get their offense going, and that usually means a point for Benn.
Overall, Benn has a point in 21 of 34 games this season (61.76%) which is slightly above the 57% probability that -135 implies.
Prop bet #3: Travis Konecny Under 2.5 shots on goal
Travis Konecny is really making a name for himself this season for the Philadelphia Flyers. He leads the team in goals (16), assists (25), and points (41) in 36 games and is doing it without shooting the puck a ton. He has just 88 shots in those 36 games, an average of 2.44 per contest.
Konecny was more aggressive shooting the puck early in the season but that has dried up as of late. He's been held to one shot or fewer in six of his last seven games while picking up two shots against the Kings. Going back to December 8, Konecny has just 11 shots on goal in nine games.
The Kings allow a league-low 24.7 shots per game and the Flyers are on the second half of a back-to-back. Look for the Kings to quiet Konecny on Sunday night.
