There is a lot of noise surrounding the New York Rangers today as reports are being made that captain Jacob Trouba will be on the move. While some might say this has nothing to do with making Penguins vs. Rangers predictions tonight, there has been some toxicity of sorts in their locker room for the past 10+ days.
The Rangers have lost six of their last seven games and things continue to look uglier and uglier each night. Tonight, they welcome in a Pittsburgh Penguins team that has had an inconsistent season, but is currently riding a four-game winning streak.

My analysis
The Pittsburgh Penguins have found the back of the net consistently during their four-game heater with 4.50 goals per game while clicking at 33.3% on the man-advantage. The Penguins have seven players that have put up at least a point per game during this streak.
Over the course of their last seven games, the New York Rangers have been an absolute nightmare defensively. They’ve allowed 4.14 goals against per game and have made countless errors in their defensive zone. New York has been outscored 29-15 over this stretch and has allowed the most shots against in the league (36.4).
With the way the Rangers are playing as of late, they have absolutely no business being this heavily favored tonight, especially since their record at home isn’t anything special. The Rangers have skated to a 6-5-1 record this season at Madison Square Garden and the Penguins are seeking revenge tonight considering that the last time these two teams met, the Rangers ran them out of their own building by the score of 6-0.
Tonight is the perfect opportunity for payback.
Tristan Jarry hasn’t been perfect, but he’s been much better in his last three starts than he was in the early parts of the season. Jarry is boasting a 3-0-0 record in his last three starts with a .911 save percentage and a 2.98 goals against average.
Igor Shesterkin’s last nine games have been ugly, but he’s not entirely to blame. He’s 2-7-0 in that span with a .882 save percentage and a 3.93 goals against average.
Starters have not been confirmed as of Friday morning, but that is the expected matchup.
Penguins vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)
Bryan Rust has three goals in his last four games and has tallied 13 shots on goal in that span. He only has two shots in each of his last three games, but with the Rangers' sloppy defense, more opportunities should come his way tonight, especially on the man-advantage.
Both of these teams have been horrible defensively. While Jarry has been better as of late, he cannot be fully trusted, especially against a Rangers team with plenty of offensive firepower. On the flip side, Pittsburgh’s offense has been firing and their power-play seems to be clicking quite nicely as of late. This game should have plenty of goals.
