My sister will go to the local food bank on Mondays and I drive her there and help carry the food she gets in Boxes. If she gets meat/cheese it is frozen and I drive her around before returning to her home. She will get Fish Sticks in heavy plastic sealed bags or routiserrie chickens in a plastic container like you see in Walmart. You have to eat that stuff in 1-2 days because as soon as those fish sticks thaw and they are just in the refrigerator you will see all the little white worms squirming. The chicken will have big grubs as big as a pencil.

Thanks for the Heads up. My wife has a church friend that gets pantry food every thursday and of course my wife takes what is offered.
Just this past thursday my wife got 2 boxes of cereal, onions, potatos and 2 whole chickens. we rotisseried 1 last night.
We defrosted it and soaked it in salt water before cooking. Did'nt see no mealy worms.
Now I'll inspect my cereal packages.

Those are uncooked whole chickens. Probably all good. He's talking the cooked chickens you see in every grocery store. I love those things. Sometimes we don't want a full meal and we'll have big salads with some of that chicken cut up for protein. Sometimes i'll cut some up, warm it in a skillet with some chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, etc and use it to make chicken quesadillas.

Wasn't me but once had a coworker who was a basic "mountain man". One year at his deer hunting camp he said; "someone shoot me a porcupine, I have two receipes I want to try. A porcupine was obtained and he skinned it, cut up half for a stew and the other half for a roast. The camp had the stew that night and it was pretty good, everyone liked it. The roast receipe called for it to be soaked in salt water overnight, which he did. Next morning they found hundreds of white worms that had leached out of the roast that was soaking in the brine!! Needless to say it was the last year they allowed him to be camp cook!!
This same guy working an evening shift with me once slipped on ice coming into work and dropped his dinner of pork chops and mashed tators on the ground. In the back of his pickup he had a dead frozen muskrat that he had trapped. He fried that damn muskrat in the kitchen of our workplace. Stunk so bad I was getting sick!! And he ate the damn thing!!! The night shift came in four hours later and asked what the hell is that stink in the kitchen!! The guy was something else!!!
About the worse for me was chugging down a cold coca-cola at an outdoor picnic only to have a yellow jacket in the bottle and then in my mouth stinging me!!

My truck driving days. Had a CDL class A w/Hazmat so I been everywhere and done everything.
Now, I'm talking YEARS ago when you could cheat with two logbooks.
Was driving about 18 hours straight to get this hot load delivered ahead of time. When your dispatcher says "hot load" he means customer wants this product like "yesterday". Customer's entire production is in the toilet and depending on me to get'er done.
Well, I got it there before expected and everybody was fine. As soon as I bumped the dock I heard the trailer lock and forklifts going crazy before I could grab my papers and head for the receiving window. Called my truck's name and I Headed to the front of the line where I got a "Good job done" from the receiver and a bunch of dirty looks from the other drivers.
Headed outside and the Lunch Truck was serving. Man, I was hungry. To be safe I should have grabbed a couple of wrapped sandwiches. No, I wanted a "hot meal" and took the Shrimp & Rice & Veggies.
After a couple bites I noticed a fried cockroach in my dinner-plate. Now, there are times when some men would vomit in a paper bag. This was not one of those times. I dismissed Mr. Cockroach and proceeded with my meal. An 18 hour day with nothing substantial to eat will do that to a man.
Disgusting? Yes.
But there are times a man must do what he needs to do.

was living in a sober house with 9 other addicts and we had 2 fridges. i bought a box of raisin bran and kept it on top of of the fridge but i didn't close the bag tightly and the hose had an ear wig problem.
so 1 night we were watching the espn sunday night game it was angels/red sox and jim edmunds made an awesome over the shoulder diving catch with his back to home plate.
so i pour a bowl of cereal and started eating. never looking down at the bowl. so i finally look down and i noticed some black and orange things floating in the bowl. it was earwigs. lots of them. the bowl was almost gone so i'm wondering how many of those critters did i eat?
