we had quite a few on Long Island up til the early 90's then most were wiped out by Walmarts and Home Depots but we still had 1 in Westbury, LI that my future wife and i drove to with a bag of weed, a pizza and 50 chick wings..What a fun Family experience equipped with the snack bar (cant beat the burgers in the foil wrap) and play ground. also showed Cartoons before the feature. Sometimes a Double feature would be my sister and i falling asleep in the Wagon before the 2nd movie began.
We have a Drive In Theater here in N. LV but its not the same as the old days of a Playground and Cartoons before the Feature.
Saw something today on line that brought back the memories
