I wondered this same thing when my wife brought it up to me. My first though was, as you said, that a real M1000 would definitely do it. I used to blow some shit to smithereens with M1000s when I was a kid. However, what about smaller fireworks? Pack of firecrackers? What if he stuck a roman candle in there and it backfired?

m1000 will terminate you if it was lit on top of your head. whoever this guy was couldn't have been an ordinary human being because it just wasn't smart.
i remember back in middle school we had some m80s and most will know that those were as real as a grenade. we lit one and put an empty 5 gal bucket upside down to cover it and that thing blew about 30ft straight up into the night sky.
whatever it was he lit up regardless his time was up.
