"So far so good. As a new user, great sign-up bonus and a great UX so far. Clean and easy to navigate app. As a soccer bettor, great options there with lots of lines. Sometimes, bookies don't have handicaps or small leagues available. Not the case here!"

2. TonyBet Ontario
TonyBet is another reliable platform in Ontario's sports betting market, giving bettors massive slates of popular and niche events to wager on daily. We'd love to see live streaming integration and a universal early cash-out option on all markets in the future, but the platform more than holds its own as one of the most reliable betting apps in the province.
We comfortably recommend TonyBet to any bettor looking for a one-stop betting shop and those who value a thorough VIP program. TonyBet's impressive market coverage promises a great experience for everyone from casual bettors and live betting enthusiasts to esports fans and online casino players.

Best Sports Betting App
Equipped with the best sports betting app Ontario offers in 2024, fantastic odds, and over 35 betting markets, bet365 is one of the best online gambling sites for sports. More than two decades of experience have helped bet365 fine-tune its product into a wonderfully well-rounded platform that we use on a daily basis.
We believe bet365 is an excellent choice for any type of user, although seasoned bettors who experience early success on the platform may find their accounts limited. At the end of the day, we view bet365 as the quintessential mobile app for sports betting in Ontario and one that every Ontario bettor should have locked and loaded at all times.

Pinnacle occupies a unique position in the Ontario sports betting landscape, as they forgo flashy features in favour of low margins, high maximum bet limits, and the best odds. We strongly recommend adding Pinnacle to your sportsbook arsenal, as you will be consistently impressed with their offerings when price shopping.
Pinnacle caters to experienced and sharp bettors who put an emphasis on tracking down the best odds and locking in big bets — but the sportsbook also welcomes casual bettors with open arms. 6. Betano Ontario
Betano is an Ontario-only online sports betting operator that is a favourite here at Covers. The online sportsbook stands out for its seamless navigation, unique trending bets for most sporting events, and superb mobile app. While its banking option could be expanded, we recently spoke to its customer service team and were assured it would be adding more options in the future.
We believe Betano is best suited for Ontario sports bettors who enjoy wagering on prop markets, both team and player-orientated. Betano offers alternative lines for almost every prop market, allowing you to add more juice to your wager if you're feeling confident in the prop.

"Betano is the fastest book to get verified with. For other sites, I’ve waited over a week to play, and many still don’t verify after that. It also has the most options for games as well. When other books have 20 games to wager on, Betano has triple that."
- Willy, App Store reviewer
“I live in Ontario, and I'm impressed. I've tried many of the sports gambling sites, and Betano beats them hands down. Betano provides easy access to its virtual game stats, a cash-out option on games in progress, and an ALMOST INSTANT MONEY WITHDRAWAL into my bank account. By far the best sports app I've used, and I'm not an employee, just an NHL fan."

7. BetVictor Ontario
Though it only entered Ontario's legal market in 2022, BetVictor has offered superb online sports betting services across Europe for several years, resulting in a finely-tuned sportsbook in 2024. BetVictor offers industry-average odds for all major sports, an array of niche markets, and an unmatched PGA live-streaming experience. Add that all together, and you'd be smart to include BetVictor in your sportsbook rotation today.
We believe that BetVictor is ideal for all Ontarians who have yet to use the online sportsbook. BetVictor has been a staple of the Canadian betting landscape for almost 25 years thanks to its fast payouts, great mobile app, and, of course, a wealth of betting options.

“I've been playing for a while now and always found the site quite enjoyable. It's very easy to navigate, and the games run very smoothly. It is easy to deposit and withdraw, and the winning funds land in your account within a couple of hours. I've had periods where I've had some really good wins and other times, there are periods where I lose, but the key is to only play with what you can afford. I play for fun, so if I win, it's a bonus!!"
- Google Play Store reviewer
"I'm not going to lie — I normally hate how sportsbooks purposely let you deposit so easily and make you go through hell if you want to make a withdrawal. But with BetVictor, I made an account, had some wins, and withdrew my winnings that same day. Great work, BetVictor."

9. BetMGM Ontario
Great Range of Sports
BetMGM is one of the top names in the Ontario sports betting industry. The "King of Sportsbook" offers one of the province's best sportsbook rewards programs, sharp lines for player prop betting markets, and access to one of our favourite mobile apps of 2024. Additionally, BetMGM is our go-to sportsbook when wagering on the NFL, as the operator recently revamped its football capabilities to provide over 450 ways to wager on the gridiron this season.
BetMGM is the perfect online sportsbook if you have a travel bug. You automatically gain access to BetMGM Rewards and MGM Rewards upon registration and can turn the points you earn from sports betting into a luxurious vacation or various other great perks.

BetMGM is the best app by far, as it has all the things you would expect and more. I don't understand the two-star reviews below, as anything you need to have a decent phone or any app can lag occasionally. I have used it on my Android and iPad, and both work smoothly as silk.

10. PowerPlay Ontario
PowerPlay is a solid option for sports betting in Ontario, complete with strong market coverage of over 20 sports and plenty of futures and live betting opportunities. We don't love the new PowerPlay app, but the betting site is optimized for iOS and Android devices and does not compromise the mobile experience.
There's something for everyone at PowerPlay, but esports bettors and online casino enthusiasts will find even more to enjoy on the platform. PowerPlay offers League of Legends, Rocket League, and Starcraft betting markets, and its online casino features an impressive collection of live dealer titles.

How to start betting in Ontario
With the arrival of online sports betting Ontario users can visit a wide range of legal gambling sites to place single event sports wagers via a mobile device, tablet, or computer. Bettors can also submit their picks at a Great Canadian Sportsbook, a sports betting kiosk at a participating casino, or an Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) terminal.
Select a sportsbook
Ontarians are now flush with options, as several online sports betting sites have joined PROLINE+ as provincially regulated platforms for sports bettors. We recommend doing some research before settling on your first sportsbook. Check out betting lines, read some reviews, and make sure your banking needs are met before getting started.
Register online
Creating an account with an Ontario sportsbook is a breeze. Simply enter some personal information and confirm your identity, and you’ll be ready to get in on the sports betting action. Anyone in Canada can register with an Ontario betting site, but you must be physically present in the province to place a bet.
Deposit funds
Funding an account can be done in a matter of minutes. The best betting sites Ontario has to offer accept several payment methods, including debit cards, credit cards, Interac, PayPal, eChecks, and more. Cryptocurrency is not considered legal tender by Ontario sportsbooks and will not be accepted.
Bettors do not need to be physically located in Ontario to fund an account. Most deposits can be made free of charge, but look over any relevant terms and conditions to avoid unexpected fees.
Choose your bet types
Ontario sports betting participants have access to a wide range of popular bet types. With the arrival of big names like FanDuel, PointsBet, and theScore Bet, local sports betting options are about to look even better. Newly regulated books have joined PROLINE+ in offering moneyline bets, Over/Unders, props, live bets, futures, point spreads, and more.
Start betting
Once you’ve become familiar with the betting options and online Ontario sportsbooks, it’ll be time to lay down some action. Do your research and make sure you’re 100% comfortable with your first bet. You must be physically located in Ontario to place a sports wager.
Withdraw funds
Expect withdrawals to take a day or two to process at the best sports betting sites. Ontario sportsbooks allow you to access your funds free of charge in most cases.
Regardless of your location, registered iGaming operators must allow you to access your Ontario sports betting winnings.
Reading the odds
American odds are the most common way to display odds in North America and are the default option for online sportsbooks. These odds identify favourites and underdogs with minus (-) and plus (+) signs. You can spot a favourite by looking for a minus sign. The number next to the minus sign will tell you the amount you’d have to wager to win $100. For example, -160 odds indicate you need to bet $160 if you’d like to walk away with $100 in profit.
Conversely, a plus sign represents the underdog. The number that follows shows you what you stand to win should you place a $100 wager. For example, +250 odds tell you that a $100 bet would net you $250 in cold, hard cash.
Check out our odds converter to swap American odds for fractional or decimal odds.

Who can bet on sports in Ontario?
You must be 19 to visit legal Ontario betting sites (21+ to bet with Caesars Sportsbook) or Great Canadian Sportsbook locations. If you’re 18 years of age, you can place in-person wagers at an OLG lottery terminal. As of Feb. 1, 2022, single-game betting is available at approximately 10,000 Ontario retailers.
Here's a brief overview of what sports bettors can expect in Ontario:
Legal age
Sports bettors must be at least 19 if they wish to bet online in Ontario. Physical bets may be placed in-store at OLG lottery terminals by 18-year-olds.
Mobile betting
Mobile betting is live with the best sports betting apps in Ontario. With just a few taps, bettors can place single-game sports wagers from anywhere in the province. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) regulates all online sports betting in Ontario.
Remote registration
Anyone, regardless of their location, can register and add funds to a new sportsbook account. Only those in Ontario will be able to bet, however. Bettors can place their first single-game bets from home, their favourite sports bars, or any other location in Ontario. Remote registration removes the need to visit a local OLG outlet before placing a sports wager.
Within provincial borders
Ontario sports bettors must have both feet firmly planted within provincial lines when placing a sports bet online on an AGCO-regulated platform. While online sports betting is already permitted in Manitoba and Quebec, each province manages and controls its own sports betting activity. Residents of Ontario are required to turn on location services and confirm their exact whereabouts before each wager.
Retail sportsbooks
There are five retail sportsbooks in Ontario — and six other casinos feature sports betting kiosks. Kambi supplies its sports betting solutions to 10 Great Canadian Entertainment casinos.
Kambi has also finalized deals to offer retail sports betting at Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.
Taxable winnings
Canadian bettors are not taxed on their gambling profits, so Ontarians can enjoy 100% of their sports bet winnings.
What is the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario?
Established on Feb. 23, 1998, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a world-class regulator that oversees alcohol, cannabis retail, lottery and gaming, and horse racing in Ontario.
The AGCO aims to protect online sports bettors by performing regular audits of Ontario betting sites to assess compliance and ensure all participants are doing business honestly in the province. AGCO's iGaming framework also strives to provide ample choice for its customers and to continue to grow its regulated market.
iGaming Ontario (iGO), an AGCO subsidiary, has been tasked with conducting and managing all regulated online sports and casino gambling in the province since July 6, 2021.
The pros and cons of Ontario sports betting
Ontario has been a trailblazer when it comes to sports betting in Canada. The province’s wish to remain an open and highly competitive market has opened the door to dozens of operators and given new and experienced sports bettors a multitude of wagering options. There are now 31 legal Ontario sports betting sites.
However, Ontario features just five dedicated retail sportsbooks. Two of these are in the GTA.
What else can you bet on in Ontario?
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has established criteria that sports bets need to meet to be deemed acceptable. Specifically, any bet that appears to be unethical, dangerous, placed on a fixed event, or involves a majority of participants under the age of 18 is off-limits.
Awards ceremonies
Popular celebrity awards shows, such as the Emmy Awards, can be wagered on via a registered Ontario sports betting site.
Politics
There are now plenty of political bets available to bettors on PROLINE+ and other regulated Ontario political betting sites.
esports
Toronto-based operator Rivalry is among the top legal esports betting sites in Ontario for participants who are 18 or older.
What about Ontario university sports?
Bettors can find major events — such as the Vanier Cup — on some Ontario betting sites.
Ontario teams and sports betting partners
Ontario is home to professional sports teams competing in the NBA, NHL, MLB, and other popular leagues — and it didn't take long for registered sports betting operators to ink partnerships with these franchises.
Here are the current strategic partnerships between Ontario sports teams and legal sportsbook operators in 2024:
Ontario team | League | Sports betting partner |
---|---|---|
Toronto Argonauts | CFL | FanDuel, PointsBet, PokerStars |
Toronto Blue Jays | MLB | theScore Bet |
Toronto FC | MLS | FanDuel, PointsBet, PokerStars |
Toronto Maple Leafs | NHL | FanDuel, PointsBet, PokerStars |
Toronto Marlies | AHL | FanDuel, PointsBet, PokerStars |
Toronto Raptors | NBA | FanDuel, PointsBet, PokerStars |
Ontarians love their sports teams
While NFL rules the Ontario sports betting roost, the local roster of sports teams garners significant betting attention.
From the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators generate much of the online gambling action. The Toronto Raptors are Canada’s lone NBA franchise. Their 2018-19 title run galvanized the country and earned them throngs of sports fans from every Canadian province.
The two-time World Series champion Toronto Blue Jays have rebooted the franchise, giving Canada’s only MLB team a much-needed boost. Rounding out the Ontario sports betting scene, Toronto FC has cemented their status as a formidable MLS club while the Toronto Argonauts hold the CFL-record of most Grey Cup championships, with 17 titles in franchise history.

iGaming Ontario handle and revenue
The total iGaming Ontario handle (including sports betting, online casino, and online poker) rose to $17.8 billion — $2.7 billion in sports betting — in the fourth quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal year.
The province has taken in nearly $100 billion in total iGaming handle since establishing its competitive market in April 2022, thanks in part to the launch of numerous Ontario casino apps that allow for gaming on the go.
Here's a look at iGaming Ontario's earnings to date:
Yearly breakdown
Year | Total handle | Revenue | Hold percentage |
2023 | $59.3B | $2.26B | 3.8% |
2022 | $21.64B | $886M | 4% |

Other types of gambling
When it comes to gambling in Ontario, sports betting is far from the only game in town. You can find 28 casinos in the province, including seven in the Greater Toronto Area.
Woodbine Racetrack, located in Etobicoke, is the largest and most prominent racetrack in Ontario and features a standalone casino — Casino Woodbine.
Casino
The Gaming Control Act of 1992 opened the doors to in-person casino gambling in Ontario. Today, the province is home to over two dozen OLG-operated commercial casinos and racinos. Ontario gamblers can enjoy a variety of table games and slots when visiting these locations.
There are now legal 73 online casinos operating in Ontario. With the newly-established iGaming Ontario spearheading the province’s new online gambling initiatives, expect to see even more Ontario online casinos introduced in the future.
Poker
There are plenty of ways for Ontario card sharks to hone their skills. Live poker can be found at many of the province’s casinos, while online poker is available via wsop.ca (World Series of Poker) and the OLG.
Horse racing
The Sport of Kings is better served within the Ontario sports betting scene, with horse racing back on bet365's Ontario platform.
Online sportsbooks must acquire a federal betting permit from the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency to provide comprehensive coverage of horse race betting in Ontario. Betting on horse racing via bet365 was facilitated by its arrangement with Woodbine Entertainment Group, which operates its back end.
Canada's federal government oversees all horse race betting in the country, so new iGaming operators, except for Woodbine Entertainment Group, cannot offer this type of gambling to online bettors.
Horse racing enthusiasts can bet online with bet365 and HPIbet or place physical wagers at a local track. Woodbine Mohawk Park (Campbellford), Rideau Carleton Raceway (Ottawa), and Fort Erie Race Track (Fort Erie) all accept in-person horse race bets.
Daily fantasy sports
Bill C-218 officially legalized daily fantasy sports (DFS) in Canada. However, AGCO's stringent rules and regulations have deterred DFS platforms like DraftKings and FanDuel from continuing to offer daily fantasy contests in Ontario.
Responsible gaming in Ontario
All the best sports betting Ontario sites has welcomed into the province promote safe and responsible Ontario sports gambling. OLG plays its part too. PlaySmart.ca is a virtual resource containing facts, counselling services, tools, and advice to help you make smart choices.
Individuals seeking support for gambling addiction can leverage free and confidential help from ConnexOntario. The organization bridges the gap between the available services and the people who need them most. Supportive specialists provide 24/7 access to information for mental health and addiction services.
Impact of regulatory changes in Ontario
Single-game betting
Legal sports betting has existed in Ontario since the mid-1980s, but single-game sports betting had long eluded Ontario bettors prior to Aug. 27, 2021. Bill C-218, the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act, permitted all Canadian provincial lotteries to offer parlay-free sports wagering to local bettors.
The iGaming Ontario market
With the arrival of single-event wagering, the Ontario government decided to establish a competitive iGaming market to capitalize on revenue opportunities and encourage Ontarians to gamble with locally regulated sportsbooks.
The Ontario government has reeled in millions of dollars in revenue since the April 2022 launch of its iGaming websites, keeping profits local and out of the pockets of grey market offshore operators.
Today, 31 legal sports betting sites operate in Ontario under the watchful eye of iGaming Ontario — and according to a February 2024 study, over 86% of Ontario gamblers choose regulated sites. While Ontarians had access to several of these sites previously, the addition of brands like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook has given locals more premium sportsbook options than any other North American market.
iGaming advertising in Ontario
Sports betting operators took a zero-to-sixty approach when it came to marketing their new Ontario platforms, and Ontario regulators took notice.
In February 2024, the AGCO tightened advertising restrictions, banning athletes and celebrities who may appeal to minors from all iGaming ads. Today, these well-known brand ambassadors only appear in responsible gambling ads.
