No. 12 Georgia 41, No. 6 South Carolina 30: Aaron Murray passed for four touchdowns and Todd Gurley scored twice to lead the host Bulldogs past the Gamecocks in their SEC opener.
Gurley rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass for Georgia (1-1, 1-0 SEC), which snapped a three-game losing streak to South Carolina (1-1, 0-1). Murray completed 17-of-23 passes for 309 yards to improve to 4-11 against ranked opposition.
Mike Davis rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown for the Gamecocks, and Connor Shaw threw for 228 yards and two touchdown passes to Nick Jones. But South Carolina missed an extra point in the fourth quarter, and was stopped on fourth-and-goal with 8:28 left.
Georgia snapped a 24-24 halftime tie on Patrick Belessกฏ 37-yard field goal midway through the third quarter, and extended the lead to 34-24 on Murrayกฏs 8-yard pass to Gurley with 18 seconds left in the period. Davisกฏ 3-yard touchdown run with 13:55 remaining brought the Gamecocks within 34-30, but Elliott Fry pulled the extra point wide left and Murray found Justin Scott-Wesley down the left sideline for an 85-yard touchdown just 55 seconds later to give the Bulldogs a 41-30 advantage.
Georgia scored 17 unanswered points to turn an early 3-0 deficit into a 17-3 advantage on Murrayกฏs 6-yard touchdown pass to Keith Marshall with 12:22 remaining in the first half. The Gamecocks responded with two quick touchdowns, tying game at 17 on Shawกฏs 18-yard scoring pass to Jones with 5:07 left before halftime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The two teams swapped touchdowns in the final two minutes of the first half. Gurley scored from 2 yards out with 1:42 remaining before Shaw and Jones connected on a 30-yard touchdown with 13 seconds left to tie the score at 24. กญ Scott-Wesley finished with 116 yards receiving. กญ South Carolina averaged 6.3 yards per carry.
