Kellen Moore passed for two touchdowns and won his 50th game as a college quarterback, leading No. 6 Boise State to a 56-24 rout of Arizona State in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas on Thursday.
Doug Martin opened the contest with a 100-yard kickoff return and Jamar Taylor added a 100-yard interception return in the third quarter as the Broncos (12-1) end the four-year Moore era with a 50-3 record.
Rashad Ross had a 98-yard kickoff return for Arizona State (6-7), which lost its fifth consecutive game, in Dennis Ericksonกฏs final appearance as coach.
Moore completed 26 of 34 passes for 293 yards, and Martin rushed for 151 yards and a score on 31 carries.
Moore followed up Martinกฏs game-opening kickoff return with touchdown passes of 14 yards to Tyler Shoemaker and 2 yards to Matt Miller to get the Broncos off to 21-0 lead over the first 18 minutes.
Boise State increased its lead to 28-3 with some trickery 43 seconds prior to halftime as Miller took a misdirection pitch from backup quarterback Grant Hedrick and threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Kyle Efaw.
Ross returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown, and the Sun Devils forced two turnovers in the first half of the third quarter, but failed to capitalize either time.
Arizona State had fourth-and-goal from the Boise State 1-yard line after the second takeaway, but Taylor picked off Brock Osweilerกฏs pass and went the distance to give the Broncos a 35-10 advantage.
D.J. Harper scored on a 4-yard run on the opening play of the fourth quarter and Travis Stanaway scooped up a fumble and raced 26 yards for a touchdown 38 seconds later to give Boise State a 39-point lead.
Arizona Stateกฏs Gerrell Robinson had 241 yards and a touchdown on 13 receptions. Osweiler passed for 396 yards and two touchdowns.
Todd Graham will replace Erickson as coach. Graham left Pittsburgh for the Arizona State gig.
