Tiger-Cats 33, Argonauts 19: Quarterback Henry Burris threw two touchdowns and linebacker Brandon Isaac had two sacks against his former team as visiting Hamilton held off Toronto in the opener of a home-and-home series.
Burris completed 19-of-31 passes for 274 yards, finding wide receivers Bakari Grant and Luke Tasker for touchdowns for the Tiger-Cats (7-7), who inched closer to the Argonauts for the East Division lead. Running back C.J. Gable and backup quarterback Dan LeFevour added rushing touchdowns, while linebacker Simoni Lawrence recorded an interception.
Quarterback Zach Collaros was 21-for-32 passing for 277 yards and rushed for a touchdown for Toronto (9-5), which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end in its return to the Rogers Centre. Kicker Swayze Waters made 4-of-4 field goals and linebacker Marcus Ball blocked a punt to set up Collarosกฏ touchdown.
LeFevour capitalized on Lawrenceกฏs interception with a 1-yard run to give Hamilton a 22-6 lead at halftime after Burris found Tasker for 24 yards 4:36 into the game and Gable ran for a 25-yard score midway through the second quarter. Toronto running back Chad Kackert was limited to 22 yards on four carries in the first half.
The Argonauts looked poised to pull off another miraculous second-half rally after a 9-yard field goal by Waters and the blocked punt by Ball that led to Collarosกฏ score, but Toronto took eight penalties for 80 yards in the final two quarters to kill any momentum it had. Burris put the game out of reach with a 15-yard toss to Grant with 6:52 remaining in the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tiger-Cats will host the Argonauts in Guelph, Ont., next week to determine the winner of the season-series. กญ Toronto is 3-4 at home and 6-1 on the road. กญ Kackert finished with 43 yards on nine carries. กญ Grant led all receivers with 93 yards on five catches.
