Alouettes 20, Argonauts 9: Quarterback Tanner Marsh won his second straight game in his first career CFL start, completing 18-of-27 passes for 309 yards and one touchdown to help visiting Montreal evened its season series with rival Toronto.
Marsh connected with Arland Bruce for a 28-yard touchdown and S.J. Green caught eight passes for 143 yards for the Alouettes (4-5), who avenged a 38-13 home loss to the Argonauts in Week 7. Linebacker Marc-Olivier Brouillette had two sacks, forcing a fumble on one that linebacker Shea Emry returned for his first career touchdown.
Quarterback Zach Collaros was 21-of-32 for 256 yards with one interception and a 34-yard touchdown toss to wide receiver John Chiles as Toronto (5-4) suffered its first loss against an East Division opponent. Safety Matt Black had a sack and an interception.
The Argonauts squandered numerous opportunities, losing two of three fumbles and taking 11 penalties for 76 yards. Emryกฏs 37-yard fumble return touchdown with 1:39 remaining in the first half gave Montreal a 17-8 lead and Argonauts wide receiver Dontrelle Inman fumbled the ball on the Alouettesกฏ 18 with 27 seconds left in the third quarter to squander Torontoกฏs best drive of the second half.
Montreal paid a price for its victory, losing running back Brandon Whitaker to what appeared to be a strained hamstring midway through the third quarter. Backup running back Jerome Messam ran for 61 yards in place of Whitaker, while the Argonautsกฏ offence was limited to 58 yards on the ground.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brouillette was starting in place of injured LB Kyries Hebert, who missed his second straight game. กญ Toronto recorded fewer than 10 points in a game for the first time since Aug. 6, 2012. กญ The Argonauts will visit Montreal on Sunday and the Alouettes will return to Toronto on the final week of the regular season.
